The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Your sister was in a bad accident or just doesn't like going fast? Or both?

its also worse if that passenger has been in a bad accident as a driver or passenger. My sister kept saying that during the fun run on Saturday
For sure a part of it. I'm still getting used to cornering fast in a car again lol. The worst possible scenarios go through your head.

Sometimes it is worse knowing about vehicle dynamics when you're a passenger who is helpless.

I discovered the original "Peaches" today! My doc's 50 year HS reunion is this year, and I found out his nickname in school was Peaches! Lol. They even named a basketball maneuver after him ...

Ok, back to dames and trikes ... (yes, I troll) ; )

My wife scares me, but we have two completely different driving styles. She's all gas or all break. Her styling of passing on the freeway also kills me. Slam on the breaks and slows all the way down to the other cars speed, then changes lanes and guns it. She's made me car sick before.

Now that's crazy. It's one thing to roll into power, pass, then let off to get back to cruising speed, but using the brakes in that situation is insane.

Those are the people who cause accidents. By the time the person behind her, and behind the next guy, and the next guy know what's happening, 10 cars back someone practically has to STOP. I hate being on the receiving end of this. It's why I pay attention to who is around me, who's coming up on me, and where I can move to go around the slow people.

It's common courtesy but doesn't seem so common anymore........ just like when people pull out in front of you from a side street and don't make any effort to get up to speed. b**** I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO YIELD TO YOU. My favorite is when I don't slow down until the last second and they look up and notice how close I am and they throw their hands up. W T F

I think its more that they don't have control. They feel powerless against what they think is death lol

Yup...like on the way to UPS to pick up your wheels last week. I just looked down and told you to watch out for that stopped car up ahead, lol.

Preaching to the choir. I should have said Highway, these are situations where you never have to lift off the gas, just change lanes.

I hate that too.

A lady flicked me off last night, still trying to figure that one out. I was 4 car lengths behind her for a while on a 2 lane road and we were just cruising, she needed to turn left, I stopped behind her, traffic went by, she turned and flicked me off.

I feel like I do this on a daily basis. It scares the s*** out of my wife when she's in the car with me because I'll actually get within 2 feet of the car in front of me before matching their speed or going around them. I can almost understand when people do this if there's a long line of traffic coming. Sometimes you just have to go or you'll never get out. However, when there's no one behind me it just pisses me off they couldn't wait 5 seconds to let me by.

even if there is a long line coming. pull out and hit the gas. I use cruse all the time and on rt3 by my house if I have to turn it off I'm pissed. I wait till the last second and get right up on people. I'm a huge asshole with people not passing anyone in the left lane. I just get closer and closer till they get scared, I have better brakes haha.

The guy that threw his hands up at me also decided to brake check me. In his 90s LeBaron. Yeah, good luck with that buddy lol. The Fiat has better brakes than the upgraded and lighter Miata! I swear it would brake quicker than the bike, even with ABS on the bike.

Edit: Yep, bike is 2' longer 60-0.

I love when bad cars try to brake check me and I don't do anything because I don't have to or else I get closer and they think I'm going to hit them. Please, I would not hurt my car lol

In the rare occasion someone's tailgating me (e.g. two-lane road and I'm already exceeding the speed limit) I usually don't brake-check. When they get close they stop paying attention to traffic conditions in front of me (e.g. slower/stopped traffic, red light, etc.) so I wait until the absolutely last possible second to brake or change lanes. I haven't been hit yet (knock on wood) but I've sent people into other lanes or off the road a couple times.

All of you people are vicious. No matter how crappy the car is in front of you, your reaction time cannot match them slamming on the brakes. If they Really wanted you to hit them, they could absolutely arrange that. But a small tap won't do sh*t to anyone; they are humans just like us, they are scared of an accident just like us, they have somewhere to be just like us (although sometimes I question this one myself).

A non-violent way to drop someone off your @ss - do the speed limit, or even 5 under. On a 4 lane highway I'll sit next to a semi truck for a mile or so - it drives people insane! But they back off eventually. Then I just resme my usual speed, get out of the way, and smile when they drive by me.
Man, I've changed so much over the years... haha

This also comes from riding a bike. The traffic / road awareness is at least 4x from car driving. It's kind of crazy how much more data your brain is crunching through when you are riding.

Lauri had an incident last weekwhen she picked me up from work. A Biatch in a Mitsu Endeavor was tailgating her and Lauri signaled to her to back off, just a friendly request. She got flipped off, uh oh..! Well, we were headed on to Hauserman which only has one lane, so my wife decides to go 15mph in a 35mph zone........we traveled a few blocks and the dumb ass crosses the double yellow line and tries to pass her, Lauri was in the MS3, needless o say, she sped up quite easiy and thrwarted that effort. She then proceeds to to turn left on to Snow Rd and keeps pace with a Chevy pick up that is traveling 20-25mph and the stank ho has choice but to stay put.

She finally took a side street! Inlight of some of the comments, I have brake checked people before, last winter in the wagon, I ended up have a tailgater go into a ditch, she shuould have put her make up on at home, not on 480 EB during rush hour traffic!

If there's room, I'll pass outside of the lanes lol. I finally have a car quick enough to do it.

If I'm going 85 in a 55 and someone comes up on my ass, I move. Sometimes I'll see them coming and I'll move to make their lane change/slalom easier (otherwise everyone else would flip out and there would probably be a wreck, but most don't think like that). I don't know why people get all huffy. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE WANTING TO GO FASTER, just get over.

Agreed. Won't last long on a bike if you aren't aware of who is where. I've almost gotten taken out riding with Jeff because he passes a car on the highway on the left (on the left of the lane) and the people in the middle lane don't realize I'm also coming (in the right part of the lane a few bike lengths back).

How did she "signal" her to back off? If I brake check someone, I BRAKE CHECK someone. I had a guy in a F150 almost crush the smart on route 8 once. He didn't think I'd slam on the brakes, apparently. He was wrong.

I don't brake check people. Because I'm usually going fast enough they don't tail gate me, or I just get over and let them pass. Because I can't stand slow people.

But if you did brake check someone and they hit you, who's fault would it be from the insurance companies point of view?

Probably would depend if anyone witnessed it/gave a report.

"Animal ran in front of me" - who knows if the police would care, they might think you were stupid for braking for an animal and cite you anyways (for what though?). Your word against theirs if no one else is around or if no one stops.

Otherwise, I'd think assured clear distance would be the ticket for the tailgater.

I once saw this happen on Graham Rd in Stow, some older guy brake-checked the f*ck out of a kid behind him in a Focus. Kid wasn't paying attention at all and slammed into the back of his car AS I PASSED THEM. Coolant everywhere. I stayed and wrote that the guy up front braked for no reason and the kid slammed into him because of it.

Meh.
