Talk me out of it...

You won't hear me talking you out of it...
Me, either! :D I suspect the Mustang has a premium on it these days. I have a real problem paying more than sticker for a car.

I think it would be a hoot to have a V6 convertible. Great looking car and they apparently handle great, as well.

I don't really understand having the MS3 as your "Sports car" and having another car for your daily driver/commuter. To me, the beauty of the MS3 is that it is a sort-of sports car, that you can fit the family, or 10 bags of mulch in, and get halfway decent mileage and drive it year round (with proper tires). If you are gonna have a commuter and a dedicated sports car, go rear wheel drive and go with an actual sports car. A Mustang if you like (personally I don't like the style or the size of the mustang. But that's just personal preference stuff.)

Well...most of you have done a good job of talking me INTO it. HAHA.

I didn't really buy the MS3 to have as my sports car, it just happened that we bought my wife a GTI and we had an older car that isn't worth anything...so I decided to keep the miles low on the MS3 - they were going up fast.

So since I have this other car, I figured I'd start looking. It does bother me a bit that you see mustangs every 3 feet - MS3s are definitely less likely to be seen (around here anyway).

If the mustang gives me just as much fun around corners as the MS3, it's going to be a tough choice.

If I didn't need the versatility of a wagon, I'd be all over a new Mustang GT. And I fail to see a car being popular as a negative; if anything, it means spare parts/mods will be cheaper, and meets more plentiful.

Try putting a lawnmower in that Mustang and closing the trunk! You can do that in an MS3.

Try fitting three people in the back seat of the Mustang. You can do that in an MS3. Even three adults.

Try getting those three people in and out easily. The four doors do matter for ingress and egress.

Try getting better than 20 mpg in heavy stop and go traffic around town in that Mustang. You can in an MS3.

This is an apples and oranges discussion. Both are great cars. The MS3 is four door hatchback with incredible versatility. The Mustang is a two door coupe with little or no back seat room, but which is gorgeous in appearance and has a very strong engine and drive train.

I love what Ford has done with the new V8 'stang. But it's just totally different in its mission and usefulness.

+1

But in all honesty Idk why we are even comparing the MS3 to a Mustang. Like i said, If he was starting fresh. I'd say go for it cause i would also. But to downgrade and trade in an MS3 for a Mustang. That's made by dumb choices in life. People have different preferences. I would totally understand if he was switching to a Nissan Maxima 3.5SE or lexus IS350. Not that it matters, but Choices like this are made by 20-25yr old's. I'm assuming he's married, he's probably around 24-28

My Ram will do all that. Well, maybe not the 20 mpg. :D I suspect, though, the V6 will meet the mpg parameter. Man, I need a six-, no eight-car garage!

Your wife having a GTI changes everything... Get the Mustang. You can have your cake AND eat it too if you can mod her car.

Downgrade? 412hp and 12.8sec 1/4 mile stock is not a downgrade. Sure a downgrade in the amount of doors but that's it.

OMG SOMEONE IS BUYING A FORDDDDD EWWW, BUY A CIVIC FOR THE SEKS!

ok ok, no fighting with the discussion.

370z is out - I drove one and the MS3 FEELS faster...I know it's not, but it feels that way. MS3 is also more comfortable and more fun to me in the corners.

I wouldn't say the Mustang is a downgrade - seeing as how it's a $35,000 car vs. a $25,000. It really is an apples to oranges comparison, they are both great cars in their own right and I honestly don't consider it a downgrade if you were going either direction. If they hit the numbers I want, it will be a tough choice.

Also, the note about the GTI - it is pretty awesome having that car as well - it really is a hell of a match for the MS3 with a few mods.

Well, for less than $1,000 you can get the MS3 pretty close to that Mustang 5.0. There are some guys here with mininal mods running high 12's now. I have a couple 13.4's on street tires. More importantly, that's with really crappy 60 foot times due to FWD and my poor launching. From 40-120, I have a verified and posted video of 12.5 seconds with listed and modest mods, as shown in link below. These little cars can really scoot once they hook up.

BTW: The new 412 hp Mustang is SLOWER from 40-120 than my lightly modified MS3. See below. These little cars are dogs from a dig, but can really surprise some "big dogs" out on the highway.
