. i did an AutoTek install for my cousin's 4runner using a single MX-1522 15" in a .75" HDF ported box and an SS-750.1 to push the sub down at 1 ohm.

A .75 cubic foot ported enclosure for a 15" sub, are you certain about that?
Can I have the dimensions?

I'm running one Alpine Type-R 12 off and MTX Thunder801d mono amp(775w trueRMS). and it sounds freakin awesome, you would never think it was only one 12. I listen to ALL kinds of music and it's super clear and super accurate, not to mention it can drop some low notes.
I'm probobly going to go to 2 MTX 8000 12's, but thats just because I want to kill people with my bass and the amp I have isn't getting used to it's full potential off the one alpine. (but the damn dual voice coils make it so I can't just drop another alpine in)

I also work car audio at Circuit city and I listen to all different brands all day. - In general with car audio you get what you pay for. A 1000w amp would never be only $199 - stupid sony garbage.

we just started carrying Audiobahn too and I think their stuff is good, but not the best, but it is better than alot of other stuff.

15's weigh too much, the boxes weigh too much, take up too much space and are slow as hell, if you listen to any sort of rock music don't do a 15.

fosgate - is cool, but their low end is garbage.

Sony - is garbage

Pioneer - Great decks, not so great subs and amps. premier stuff is pretty nice though

Kenwood - a little better than sony, more power and a little cleaner, but again $199 for 800-1000watts, yeah right.

Alpine - is nice, but I think their amps are kinda weak for the price, but they are some of the cleanest amps I have ever used. Their subs are awesome too.

Bazooka is pretty decent esp. for its price, good dollar to watt ratio. I acctually like their amps - wouldn't buy them for myself, but good if your on a budget.

Audiobahn - good power, realistic in price to watts, a little more show than go, clearer stuff out there.

MTX - I love MTX. True power and lots of it. very clean sound realistic pricing. Their new 9500 series subs are going to be insane! 4 full inches of excursion! 750-1000w true rms handling! Expensive, but you get what you pay for ($399 for 10" $499 for 12")

Lightning - Low end fosgate, but the strike series is pretty good, their demo Jetta lives around here and it sounds sweet.

there are so many more brands, but I would probobly suggest checking out smaller companys that are building up. MA audio is AWESOME(not mobile authority) MA. Visonik is nice, Memphis, MMats, diamond.

Stay away from - profile, PYLE, Lanzar.

sorry this post was so long. Just trying to help.

No Worries on the length. You have some good info there. I don't agree a 100% but I am about 90% with you (thumb).

One thing though:

HOW DARE YOU EXCLUDE JL (no)
kidding.

sorry, i put down .75 inch-thick HDF for the box. (' for ft and " for in)

i'll get the dimensions of the box when i see my cousin again.

sorry about leavin out jl it was like 5am and i was tired.

Jl - makes some quality stuff with great excursion. but i notice most people have jl stuff that's like 10 years old. why is that?

i believe in JL, but they're just so damn expensive.. the tweeter in my area has a w7 on demo and you just have to feel all that air move!

i just went to an import car show this weekend and i noticed a lot of cars had JL.. and just an equal amount had audiobahn. funny how i saw more sony and kenwood than rockford fosgate..

shaq's escalade was there and the whole rear is lined with audiobahn 10s i believe.

i'm still waiting for my local shop to get their MMATS demo car together..

Becuase its about the only brand that will stand up that long. JL is great in that it just keeps getting better, they never rest on success.

Has anyone here actually heard the eD speakers live? I was hoping to pick up a 10" for my new sub design, and noticed it was recommended by some people around here...but while we're on the subject of subs, i figured I'd ask about them.

Never heard them, the sad thing is neither have many that reccommend them. Don't worry I trust those that have reccomended them here have heard them or I would have been on them FAST! i have been tempted to try some out too.

hehe...I'll let you know in a few months then! Reviews look good, especially for SQ, so we'll see. I've been guilty of recommending them w/o hearing, just on reviews...but I try to add the disclaimer, when ever possible. They seem like they're really well priced, and these smaller companies sometimes churn out some amazing stuff, so liek I said...we'll see.

i've heard the K and O series. both in prefab boxes, though:( i'll be building misterT a box for his 2 k-series 12's. and my friend has an O series 12 in a prefab sealed box that sounds sweet. i've only heard of one problem with an A-series sub, and that was a cracked cone. just a minor manufacturing defect, and the sub was replaced under the 3 year warranty.

HondaToMazda, your friend's car is sweet. but audiobahn is typically for the install that's more for looks than sound:rolleyes: dollar for dollar, audiobahn is not even in my top 5.

shizzbeatz, my first few systems were autotek. i love thier equipment, especially their amps. but even at wholesale cost, they can be a bit pricey:( mmats is also great equipment, but i haven't gotten the chance to use it yet, since i don't have any connections on it:rolleyes: shaq's ride had been done by randy hack, owner of the hack shack. after he finished an insane install him and shaq butted heads and randy took everything out and told shaq to **** himself:eek: randy usually does at least $10-20K minimum install jobs;) but tries to stick to one $30K+ install job every month or so:D

Thanks wake! Finally somebody who can recommend them after hearing them! I'll be getting the basic K series, just to up the ante a little in the car, and will be running it off either a kicker kx400.1 or JL 250/1 in a custom fiberglass enclosure. Sound pretty good?

That should sounds good. I also have the e12k.44 and am currently running it off a JBL 600.1 and it sounds very sweet. I would go with the Kicker amp as it probably a little cheaper and puts out a little more power. Actually I would step up to the 600.1.

if u want the best, and the loudest go with a 15" mmats juggernaut, thats wat i got in my car, but prepared to have no trunk cuz they take up alot of air space my box is almost 8 cu. ft. ive hit 149 at many shows and 150 one time usin a 1200 watt d300 mmats amp

I can attest to the quality of the edesigns subs as well. I had one of the first k series subs a 12" in my protege5, in a custom fiberglass enclosure it rocked. I had my stuff done at shop that pushese JL stuff (for good reason) and he was impressed with it, even more impressed when I told him how much I paid for it.

Looking at two brands of subs seriously for custom work in my Mazdaspeed, edesigns and JL. We'll see what kind of a deal I can get on JL audios and whether I end up with 1 10", 2 10"s or multiple 8"s (3 or 4).

8's are a waste of money

Not necessarily, it all depends on what you want from your system. And what kind of music you listen too. If you are going for SPL, then yes 8s are probably a waste of money, but if space is a concern, and you are more concerned with SQ then SPL 8s may be just the ticket. I replaced the mazdaspeed stock 8" subwoofer with a JL audio 8" subwoofer and it's much better then the kenwood sub. It's no 10" or 12", but you can't expect miracles from a small speaker. But mulitple 8s in a small enclosure, that has potential.

I would only get JL audio 8's or the edesign 8s (which happen to look very nice) Obviously if I can go with 10s and still keep my trunk space to a reasonable amount I will. We'll see how things go after I talk to my installer and see what we can fabricate with my goals in mind. But I have a feeling that multi 8s 3/4 will fit my needs nicer then a single 10.

The big problem with the MSP/P5 is the lack of space in the spare tire well because of the hump. That is what I want to look at first. That's why I am looking at multi 8s. If I can't do something in there and keep the floor low enough, I'll look at other areas of trunk and all other speaker sizes.

okay, it's 3am, time to quite rambling and to bed.
