** Spring Buyer's Guide **

I just called Goldline, and the guy said that they are "variable pitch", which sounds like "progressive" to me. Also, the rates he quoted me (for the GPS-1100 model) were a tad softer than what was listed on the chart on page 1...

front: 140lbs variable pitch

rear: 130lbs variable pitch

Also, for alignment, you can get camber bolts (PN 81250)

yeah, variable = progressive rate. at those spring rates it should be a pretty comfortable ride, yet still handle pretty well. especially since they are progressive. I probably wouldn't go any softer than that though... but thats just me. (I have the Tein SS coilovers, which are pretty stiff and I like that, though not as stiff as my GC's felt)

Also, has anyone used the Epselier springs?
Pictures and review of my car with espelirs will be forthcoming in a few weeks.

According to H&R, their springs are supposedly 25-30% stiffer than stock.

Did you call them and ask them specificly about their Protege springs? I'm hesitant use their general claim for all of their springs on the guide. I'll change the Goldline info when I get a chance. Thanks for the new numbers

That's their general rate. I asked him for the specific Protege info, but he was being a bit standoffish. But those specs are better than nothing.

I got the same attitude from H&R whem i e-mailed them, and they wouldn't give me any specifics.
I have since sold my H&R springs, but I never used them.

Hmm, I think I'm going to leave the chart as is for the H&R's but mention in the first post's additional info that they claim a 25-30% increase in stiffness. I'd like to keep the chart as specific as possible.

EDIT- I will calculate the spring rates as I did with the Tanabe springs and add them in when I correct the Goldline numbers.

I'm thinking of installing MSP springs on my 02es with stock shocks will this work ok, I'm just going for a better look and would like to stay as close as possible to original ride.I'm worried about noise I HATE suspension noise.

Has anyone given B&G springs a shot??? Any pics would also be appreciated!!! :) I just got a set and might be installing them this weekend.. I'll let you guys posted.. but would like to see the final product before hand...

Thanks!

Update on the Espelir Springs.

I don't have pictures yet, and yes I know this post is worthless without pictures, but the front of the car dropped quite a bit and the rear is actually slightly up from where it was before (My rear was sagging a lot with the factory Racing Beats because of the stereo stuff) but it appears that the Espelirs have a similar issue to the Spool springs when it comes to the rear of the MSP.

Rishie took some measurements on my car and we can confirm that the spring perch on the factory struts for the MSP makes the rear sit 1" higher than a regular protege or a protege 5 would on Espelirs. giving my car something of a raked look right now. It's not bad, but not what I was going for, when I change my struts with illuminas, this problem will be eliminated because the spring perch will be moved back down 1".

I have a question for you. when you install your illuminas, can you tell me if your rear spring fit exactly in the perch? My spool springs fit but overlap the lip and so it doesn't seat exaclty as it should, which may be a reason why they didn't drop as much in the back. It's nothing major but something to look at. If you aren't picturing what I am saying I could illustrate it for you but I need you to take a pic of the spool springs from the side and angled down just slightly, since I dont have a camera. Then I can show you

Sure, but it will be a while, i am gonna run on the stock struts for a while before I change to illuminas. But Rishie has had plenty of experience with the Illuminas and espelirs and he says it should fit and work just fine and everything will level out.

hi it may have been covered i do not have time to read the wholethread at this moment but i have black a 02 p5 and am in the process of color coding my interior black and red and i wish to carry it through to the exterior so i was thinking of using the eibach sportlines because it give me a nice drop and they seem to have good handling ( from all reports ) but they are not made for the p5 it seem only the mp3 will they still fit the p5s factory set up ( i ill be changing shock later due to to finance restrictions at the moment)

as far as I know they have them available for the p5. but if you're having a hard time finding them, yes a sedan spring will work no problem
