Shadow102's RX7 NA build thread

Loud isn't the word lol. Nice project build man...it was nice to finally meet you and the gang. Can't wait to see where you are on your build the next time I come down there :)

The funny part is that when you came down the silencer was in the exhuast.

And I hear ya dave I have contemplated removing the thermo wax just not sure yet. I know I am going to remove those butterflys and at least smooth out the throttle body.

Subbin. Nice build man. I've gotta get my vert runnin again. I really miss driving it. Good luck with your build!

probably since its going to be the easiest solution gotta figure out the water temp one as well. I have a spare WRX dash gauge pod sitting in my garage i am going to see if i can custom mount it somewhere instead of going with a pillar pod.

on the back of the water pump housing there is plenty of room to pull that off and drill and tap there to put the sensor in for the water temp

otherwise on the thermostat neck

yeah T-stat neck will work best. And now that i think of it instead of using a sandwich plate i might as well T off the stock oil presure sender. Does the ECU even use that as an input anyway i could probably eliminate the stock sender all together and have a T in its place for the temp and presure sends on the aftermarket gauges.

well the sandwich is VERY effective and that is how I would do it.. "t's" tend to end up leaking and with the limited room back there u dont want to have anything snap off.

LED tail light bulbs went in last night and i finished modifying my front turn signal housings to fit the LED bulbs. Also had to reseal and fix both front turn signal housings since the aparently were damaged and replaced by the idiot body shop. And unless i havent found where the harness has been modified the tag light bulbs in the rear of the car are wired backward which in a LED application wont let the bulb turn on.

All those bulbs will be going in the car tonight and i am hoping i have at least one package waiting for me when i get home as i am expecting a lot of stuff.

Got my tail light today repaired the small corner nick that allowed me to pick it up for $15 shipped. Went and picked up 5qts of valvoline vr-1 20w50 so I can drain the bad 5w30 out and get a mazda filter on there

Well got some work done sunday. Oil was changed, removed the rest of ac system from under the hood, pulled the flame arresting blanket from under the hood since it was falling apart, and lastly got the grounding kit I bought months ago installed in the car. the grounding kit actually went in better and easier than I had expected. I will get some pics of it after I zip tie some of the wires down.

Got a whole lot of diddly squat in the mail today so still waiting. Did manage to modify a wrx dash gauge pod to fit over the dummy light dash piece for the gauges I have coming.

going to take pics of the taillight minus a hole and the LED bulbs i installed tonight. Also got my intake manifold so i will be going to work on that this coming week. Hopefully after i swap in a gasket matched manifold i will take the old one and see about making a custom one...seems there are some good gains to be had on a custom mani.

for now i do have a new video of the car at idle.

got the pics and got a vid to show the brightness/instant on of the LEDs. The RX7 has LED's in the 4 red lights and tag lights (in the vid you can see the difference of the LED vs Regular bulb with the third brake light)
The protege5 has the tag lights and reverse lights. You can also see the brightness against the garage door of my front ambers in the rx7

Well spare intake mani is all apart been hot tanked and cleaned. The vdi and both extra ports were stuck. The vdi is now working great and may install it on the car tonight as the one in there I believe is frozen. The 5/6 ports are still stuck. I got one actuator unstuck the other I believe is a lost cause but I am not worried about it. However the actuator rods in the manifold are a problem. They are both unstuck but incredibly hard to move. They are currently soaking in some pb blast to hopefully work.

And now I can see why people make more power with custom manifolds...there are so many twists and turns for the air to travel it must really hurt the car. May just end up looking into putting a tii or fd upper mani on the car.

if u put a T2 or FD plenum u will need the plenum spaces which is EXTREMELY pricey..

and the FD or T2 lower will not fit the 6 port block. u will loose the 6th ports..

on the n/a there is not big gains with intake modding there was a guy who dynoed after port matching and extrude honed port/polish etc on a n/a intake and only gained like 12hp (crank) more money and time then anything wasted then gained.

exhaust and air flow into the tb is where u will get most the power.. then porting..

Why would a t2 upper require a spacer? I haven't held one in my hands but just wondering why it wouldn't fit.

As far has gains I know there is a guy selling a custom intake right now that netted 11whp on a stock engine. But really at this point any extra power I can squeeze without opening the engine is helpful.

I did however get a lot of extra power last night. I had the suspiscion for a while now my air pump wasn't doing crap for actuating anything. So I set 5/6 and vdi open all the time and the car is a ton faster. Its actually fun to drive now because the car will get outa its own way.

Started setting up my gauges and stuff going to get the sandwich plate this week and hopefully have them up and running this weekend.

Also received my presilencer yesterday...the previous owner didn't know much about it but now I do know its for a turbo since its not long enough to reach between the header and cat back plus there is no way it would ever bolt to the header flange...so I need to make a short pipe to mate it all together

the turbo plenum wont fit..

the na setup is a 3 piece intake the turbo setup is a 2 piece intake..

the bolt together differently and will not fit on top of each other..

the turbo intake faces the drives side the na tb is on the passenger side..

its not a direct swap.
