My MS3 was my first new vehicle purchase in over 12 years, kind of a reward for reaching 50 alive and unindicted. Well, less than two weeks after I picked it up a friend backed into the RR quarter panel, leaving a dent about the size of a goose egg. The guy is really nice, Regular Army with several kids, so I told him to forget about it. Drove over to Dent Wizard, who says they would have to drill a hole in the RR C pillar to access the dent and even then couldn't do better than an 80% repair. Took it to what is supposed to be the best local body shop and am advised that the tail light, rear bumper, and fixed quarter window would have to be removed and that "No one will ever know." This is the same shop that fixed my wife's 528i when it took a heavy hit to the rear. When I got it back I had to spend $100 and over two hours
hooking up the trunk solenoid wiring and replacing the crap generic trim fasteners with the correct BMW parts. They also repainted the hood on the ti and said they wouldnt leave any tape lines. I stripped the hood insulation and washer nozzles myself and they STILL left tape lines(which I was able to buff out fortunately). Scratches don't bother me; I'm pretty adept at touch up work. Ditto for door dings. That said, having the rear of a two week old car completely disassembled and knowing it won't be reassembled correctly is another thing altogether.
Which is a long and roundabout way of saying that the MS3 is being sold tomorrow. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted...
