Safeguard

Wonder how this'd wire in with my MPI tuner...
Not an issue, since I have both.

The J&S is between the ecu (and or mpi) and the coils, thus you cut the coil wires and wire it in, then it needs power and ground, and tps if you choose to hook it up. You obviously have to mount and connect the knock sensor as well.

I'd have to look at the instructions to see if I'm missing something else, but it is really quite simple. If you can hook up the MPI, you can hook up the J&S.

Groovy. And it comes with a MAP sensor for boost retard or what?

Where do you put t he knock sensor?

Yes it has an internal 2 bar MAP in it.
I put hte knock sensor in one of the bolt holes at the back of the engine block, right by the bracket holding the half shaft (below the oil filter). Linux put his on the front side of the block I think in the hole that was used by the pre-cat bracket.

Cool. If you can, posts pics of where you put the knock sensor.

So how do you adjust this thing? Dip switches?

Well the JandS officially works with my microtech. I am now safeguarded as of this evening. Car is running well and things look good. I need to get my gauge working now and dial in the settings on the JandS. But I'm very happy that things are up and running! Can't wait to bump up the boost and have confidence that my engine won't go boom either! :)

Install is SUPER easy with the microtech as I just spliced the JandS inbetween the coils and gave it power and ground... then put the knock sensor on the block and you are good to go! That's it...

But a very big word to anyone doing their install... be ridiculously careful with that adapter bolt. I broke mine and then paid John to ship me a new one next day air so I'd have it in time to be ready for a race.

The threads for our block are M10x1.25 so invest in a tap and clean out the block threads before you install it.. it makes a WORLD of difference... the bolt will snug up, but don't wrench on it! Once that is done you can put the knock sensor on.... you'll want to tighten that nut down, but really I SWEAR do NOT do that! Get it so that it makes contact with the sensor, get a tiny bit tight to where you can't really turn the knock sensor and then LEAVE it or you will snap off that adapter bolt. It is unbelievably easy to do. I got my tight and then gave it a quarter turn to make it a little bit snug and it snapped right then and there. So once the knock sensor is held in place stop right there!!!

So anyway... I know a few of you have just bought or will buy one very soon (and I highly recommend it myself!) so if you have questions or whatever feel free to pm me if you want!

Later.

Steve

The JandS is the ultra safeguard which runs around 500ish... talk to John at JandS about getting one...

If you mean my Microtech I have the LT8 and they run about 800 for the unit.. but then there are other things you need past that... all told it'd run you around 1200 to 1400 but it's a GREAT EMS from my experience with it so far (but I have not directly used anything else besides the MPI tuner which is also a great little toy too!)

Turf, I believe John told me that 12 ft/lbs of torque on the nut that goes on top of the sensor is sufficient. FYI for all.

i'de like to talk live with someone with the j&s. i can snag one up for a pretty good deal i think but i had some questions about it... just pop me a pm and we can talk. you'll know about my situation when we talk. you'll see why i need questions answered. please, anyone with a saveguard v2 just pop me a pm.

Safeguard requires tapping into three lines (power, ground, and tps) and cutting the two coil wires. That's pretty much it. Then you attach the knock sensor (two wires) and a vacuum line.

Thanks Jeromy. I was on my way to bed when I posted that, and didn't get too in depth like I should have.

I got my J&S safeguard today (thanks to doomer) and already have my gauge (thanks to turfburn) I just need to order my knock sensor and i will be ready to install.. I've been so busy latley, and im not online much, so just updating on my progress. Im sure i will need some help when im ready to install, so other J&S users be ready for some ?'s.

Slacker! Just make sure to hit up my stickied thread on making the J&S work with the MPI Tuner in the Engine Mangagement section!
