We ended up getting the 215/40's.....
The car hasn't been lowered yet so I can't say for sure if they will rub or not....

We should either have the TEIN SS's or JIC's within the next few weeks. So we'll let you know....will probably need to roll the fenders though.

I've been looking into a set of Ro_Ja Formula 5 wheels for my Mazdaspeed Protege in 17x7 with 215/45zr17 tires.... the correct bolt pattern is available (5x114.3 mm) but the offset is 42+ ...... I know the stock offset is 55+.... with a 42 offset, it would push the wheels 13 mm further from the hub (I think?). Has anybody here on the board have any experience with 17x7 wheel with a 42 offset?

I read earlier a little about the centerline wheels and since I have a set sitting by here is my question. If they have a 42 mm offset and it is a 17x7 inch rim with 205/40 tires, will this fit my 2003 MP5? I know you said barely earlier but is there a tire combo that would be better? Because I like the polished look and weight I want to get these rims, but since I don't want to roll fenders will anything work with these rims?

Ok well I am new here if u cant tell I have a 2003 pro sedan es and I have 18/7.5 +45 with 235/40/18 from before i bought my car and I tried them before I found this site and the back strut suport sits on the tire when I put it on the ground. So my question is will going to a 215/35 give me enough room or do i need to sell my rims. The car is at stock height right now untill snow melts then i will put on coil overs

That tire size is almost 20 mm wider and has a sidewall that is almost 20 mm taller.....

So take a look at what you've got and ask yourself, "if my tire was 20 mm shorter and was 10 mm further away from my strut support, would this rim/tire combo work?"

If you think it would, then 215/35's SHOULD fit in there.

I do not think the RIM width or offset is an issue here when it comes to rubbing the "strut" support...I'd be more worried about rubbing your inner fender....

I want to put a 215/40/17 or 215/45/17 tire on a 17x7" rim with 40mm offset. Will this be okay? It looks like it will work to me, although the taller 45s are a little iffy... Wish I had MSP struts...

The offset of a wheel is what locates the tire and wheel assembly in relation to the suspension. More specifically, it is the measured distance between the hub mounting surface and the center line of the rim.
A positive offset occurs when the hub mounting surface is on the street side (the side you see) of the center line of the rim. Most factory rims will have this type of offset.

I am more worried about rubbing the strut. I am looking at a 17x7 wheel with a +42 or +43 offset and a 215/40.

You won't be anywhere near the strut unless you start to go higher than +55 offset.

this is for 215/35/18

if your rim is 7.0" thick you need +45 and higher
if 7.5" you need +48 and higher

for a 215/40/18, you might what 1 or 2 mm more
