Rear liftgate

I am seriously considering the CX-5. My concern is the rear liftgate is not powered. That is really no big deal for me, but my wife is very short. I am concerned she will not be able to reach the handle when the liftgate is open. I tried searching this site and the internet and could not find my answering. What is the height of the handle on the liftgate when the liftgate is open? Has one tried attaching a strap on the liftgate to make it easier for a shorter person?

I know I should really have my wife go down to the dealer and test it herself. She gets a little embarrassed about her height though. I am just hoping someone here can give me the answer.

Use a short wooden/plastic hook device to reach the liftgate handle. That would easly solve that problem. I had to do the same thing for the sunroof sunshade because my shoulder doesn't want to go back that far. Ed

How tall is your wife?

My mother at 5'2" has no problem closing the lift gate in my CX-5.

"What is the height of the handle on the liftgate when the liftgate is open?"

1.815m (71.5 inches) to the bottom of the handle.

My girlfriend is 4'11"

I'll have her come out and see how many hops it takes to snag it.

Thank you for the response KJO. My wife is 4'10". She often times needs help reaching for things. I will have to measure how high she can reach when I get home.

I'm 4'10", and I have the '13 CX-5 Touring w/ 17" wheels. I have no problem reaching the handle on the right side of the liftgate. I don't know if the larger wheels on the GT would make a difference (if you're considering the GT).

Same height for the FWD and AWD with or without the GT package with 19" wheels. Same tire diameter.
