Project RX7 Race car - Progress so far!

all this money in the engine... what suspension work's been done?

all this money in the engine... what suspension work's been done?

KYB AGX's (set to #7 of 8), Ground Control Coilover Sleeves, HKS Camber plates, HKS pillow ball mounts, Eibach Springs, Suspension Techniques front and rear sway bars. The car has been cornerweighted also, at 49.9/51.1. Oh and we use 9" wide slicks, which help. Car handles AWESOME (9 point roll cage helps that too). It's STIFF. 1.5deg camber or something at this moment (had 2 deg but wore the inside off one of the tires doing solo OOPS!). And we're putting a rear camber adjuster in soon. Also, urethane all around, and rear toe eliminator.

Upgraded brakes to the turbo brakes with 4 piston alum. calipers and using full track compound GranSport GS3 pads all around.

It was gravy until I read AGXs :(. What spring rates are you running on those? They can't handle a whole helluva lot.

Meh we got 'em cheap to work out the kinks on the rest of the car. Planning to upgrade, trust me. ;)

450 rear 275 rear for rates I think. And we have a set of 550's that came with the set too.

There's only so much $$$ to go around. Last year, we had to basically rebuild the chassis, this year a new engine, next year, finish the suspension.

Ah, fair enough. Good luck! I can't wait to see her finally complete :)

(pffff, like there's such a thing as a 'finished' race car!)

Heard from the engine builder today. Irons are done and are going to be cleaned up at the body shop (sand blasting) tomorrow, then painted. Side seals and counterweights should be there soon. Then there will be a day worth of assembly and some engine dyno work to break it in perhaps (may be easier than doing it on the track).

Hey Jenn!

Joe here, your wonderful awesome engine builder :)

I actually just finished assembling the shortblock right now, just need to assemble the front stack and toss on the front cover and I'll be ready to head to the dyno with it.

Heres a teaser pic:

Matches the stickers. There must be at least 50 hp of stickers on the car!

Not sure if I posted this one already.

Thanks for the pic Joe, it looks nice. I guess I don't need to call you today to confirm that the side-seals arrived safely yesterday. I look forward to the rest of the pics later.

We're getting close to completion, so I guess I better take advantage of the long weekend to start rolling my loose change....

I've been a member as long as you, figured I should make a post or two.
Benefits of working from home today.

Even better, when I was moving stuff in the basement this morning to make room for the new water heater to get installed, I found $2.90 in Canadian Tire money for the race fund... :)

LOL that's a shoestring budget if I've ever heard of one!

Just spent a couple of hours cleaning under the engine bay. Any bolt, bracket or part that is no longer serving a purpose is being removed, and everything is being taped off. I will be painting the whole engine bay this weekend to match the exterior paint we put on last year.
