Project RX7 Race car - Progress so far!

A couple little set backs last night, one being we went to install the new temp sensor, and it got tightened too much and cracked the filler neck, so some silicone and JB weld, and I hope it's going to not leak, had to let it sit overnight.

Going home at 2:30 today to get the rest of our stuff packed and load the car.

I removed the old gauges last night (there are now no gauges in the car at all) in preparation for our new gauges tonight.

Still recovering from the car show on the weekend, we've got video of me driving the car out of the show in front of the crowd, I'll post it as soon as I get a chance to upload.

Next project: Fabricate an aluminum dash/gauge panel and install the electronics.

It sounds better everytime we start it and run it. We have some smaller chokes on order, that should help it rev nice and sharp/quick and high. :)

First lapping day at the track is this weekend. I will try to bring the video camera. :)

So our pre-silencer like exploded. lol The car is loud now!

It bottomed out on the trailer, then there was a little hole in it. Drove it on the track a big, the hole got bigger and all of the steel wool stuffing exploded out the bottom. haha So we need a new one of those.

3rd and 4th gear are shitting in our tranny, so we have to have a tranny rebuilt or buy a new one (with FB or miata gears in it -- to improve the ratios). All of this before June 22.

Our custom tach is coming this week. The rest of the gauges are finally in and work great.

I have more pics, just need to upload them.

Haven't updated in a while, so here we go:

Got the presilencer cut out of the pipe and replaced with a straight pipe. It's not THAT loud.

Got a new tranny and put it in, shifts like butter, and it has a little better gearing (1st gen gears).

Custom tach is here, and just got reprogrammed.

So we took it out on the track to finish breaking it in (yay! it's ready to go!), and I was driving and the damn seat cushion came out and went under my feet, so I came in, fixed that, went back out, and the starter fell off. It broke the flange where one of the bolts went through and the other bolt, god knows where that went. We took off the starter, push started the car, and finished breaking it in.

Also broken: Alternator wire (simple fix), need to seal in the oil filler neck (this might be the persistent oil leak we've been chasing).

The clutch needs adjusting too.

On August 1, we leave for autoslalom nationals in PEI, so we'll have to have it all fixed for then. We just received our roll cage camera mount, so we'll be taping some runs.

Rev limiter is now set at 9750rpm.

Teething issues ftl! I trust y'all get everything figured out soon :)

That's about 250 RPM too low. Actually, lets make it 251 just to be safe :p

haha it's for longevity! 9750 is just fine for now. :)

well there's a video of us taking apart the new transmission today. Ugh.

Long story.

Went to Solo nationals, and a $0.96 part broke in the transmission, ending our weekend. Fixed all the other crap that was broken too. Hahah it's hard to keep up with it. Race weekend in 3 weeks. I'll update with photos and video when I get a chance. I have some in-car video from the slalom runs, and from when the tranny let go.

Ouch, that sucks :(. I know a couple other folks that went to that event (random thought, sorry... haha)

At least it didn't damage anything else.

The other tranny we took apart for possible parts, a piece of syncro ring fell out. haha

Soo....found a piece of metal on the floor last night. Turns out it's one of the tabs where a tranny mount bolt goes through.. it cracked off the rear iron of the engine!!

Anyway....I'm sure it will be fine for a little while on 5 tranny bolts, but it's still a bit concerning.

Talked to the engine builder, apparently this piece breaks off a lot and it should be fine without it.

Tranny parts are due today, rebuild will happen this week (shouldn't take long, only 40 minutes to get it all apart).
