Potential Buyer Help

Toyota Celica Turbo Alltrac
I have been silently reading this board for the past few weeks. I intend to purchase a new car in Feb. '04. My top choice as of now is the 2003.5 MSP. I need a good reliable daily driver for college. My question goes as follows:

I have read numerous posts on this board about blown motors and this undoubtedly concerns me. I understand tuning principles and modifying a car, however one thing that does concern me is the strength of these cars, more importantly the motors. It seems that most of the blown motors occured from raising boost levels, however slight that may be. On my Celica i boosted 16psi on stock everything (MBC, Boostguage, 3in. Exhuast). I do not plan to modify this car beyond maybe a CAI.

I want to know this, how many of these blown motors that I have been reading about have been on BONE STOCK MSP's (no raised boost or mods) ??

This is the only factor of the car that is keeping me away. Any and all help would greatly be appreciated. Thanx.

I dont beleive anyone has blown their ENGINE with stock settings... I drive my car real fairly hard most of the time and just have an injen intake... I have had no knocks, or any engine related issues at all. wanna buy my caR? im selling it shorty to buy a 99 M3 WOOHOO

two people have blown their motors stock, but that was due to a problem in the block when it was cast. One was forcefed and think the other was something like igdai7 or something.

the more I think about I think someone else also blew a stock motor.

the other person w/ a blown motor was twiztedjeckel. there was something wrong that happened internally and had nothing to do w/ modifications.

btw, nice celica :)

So, overall, would you guys all agree that if i didnt do any mods and drove the car easy that i shouldnt have reliability issues to deal with? I really do not want a car that will have to be in the shop all the time (even under warranty). I have my Celica for that. :)

murdock_, ill pass on buying your car. I want a new car from the dealer.

BTW, anyone here around Gainesville, Fl?? I saw two 2003 MSP's today. An orange and a blue one. I would love to meet up and get a feel for the car before i go to the dealer. IM me on AIM: sunsetsux70

just take a test drive ! oh yeah if u wanna keep the car for a long time, just maintain it and give it that tender and loving care it deserves...that turbo pushes it far

you can drive it hard wiothout worries bro. I rag on mine all the time, and it's held strong, no engine problems at all. Just use common sense, don't redline excessively, and don't run it hard 100% of the time, and you'll be fine. Hell, you could probably rag on it 90% of the time and still be good. BTW, what is you celica running(parts, 1/4 mile, hp.etc). If the MSP is your daily driver, then you'll be really happy with it.

hey man... we have things goin on here in FL all the time... maybe not in gainsville... but we do statewide meets every few months

Post up any florida events and ill do my best to attend.

The Celica is awaiting dyno results and then I will take it to the 1/4. Shooting for somewhere around 350whp and mid-12 1/4.
