Trailblazer SS AWD ....Still a Mazda Junkie Though.
Are the P5 Trannies the Same as the MSP sans LSD?

Are the Gears the Same ratio's?

Anyone have the definitive info on this...It would be nice to know.

Subbin...I'd like to know the answer to this should I ever need a new transaxle. Given Mazda's penchant for parts bin grabbing with the MSP it probably is the same sans the LSD. Perhaps THE MAN will weigh in.

There are small other internal various differences like one of the shift forks, 5th hub assembly, synchro, counter shaft, and other little bits and pieces. The ratios are the same.

Did you break something?

No..But when I tear down the P5 Tranny for the LSD..I wanted to know if there was anything Else I should go ahead and Replace IF ITS WORTH IT while its apart.

the msp trans swap requires the larger axles as well
I've never heard of this..Are you sure the Splined ends arent the same just the center section is beefier?

I'm sure its hard for you, but don't act like you are all knowing when it comes to Protege's. If you were you would not of even asked the initial question. But to answer your question, no I did not know it.

I always knew they were swapable.

Both cars use the Samn FS motor...and the same Platform.

I only posed the Question to find out the Internal Differences with the exception of the LSD which was obvious.
I wanted to see if there was any gearing changes or if any other vital parts were different.
Its been said that the shift forks are different..but no one has confirmed any of this as of yet.

I am no protege expert..but I have been posing very interesting questions as of late during my "Build" info gathering time that I am sure will benefeit more than just me down the road.

My reply was not meant to be offensive..Sorry.

Its all good. Maybe all would be better served to obtain a dealer parts print out for the MSP and Protege transaxles with the individual part numbers. That way it will be as clear as day regarding the forks and any other parts, which may be different. No disrespect to the experts, but I like to see things on paper.

Good luck with your build.

Im bumping this thread because my MSP lsd took a s*** today. pretty much blew apart.
And dont have the cash flow to buy a new LSD unit. But i have found some P5 5 speed trannies that i can at least swap in for the time being.
So mainly, do the 2 trannies swap in and out? or any mods need to be done?
