Out with the silver... in with the bronze (wheels).

So I decided to paint my wheels, the cheap way. Used Dupli-Color bronze wheel coating as I read other reviews around the web from people who had good results with it. Of course, powdercoating is the obvious way to go if you have the time and money, but nonetheless, I went this route. I like it and that's really all that matters. :)

Washed them good, sanded them to rough them up, rewashed them, air dried them, taped/masked them off, sprayed them with 3 coats (little more on the edges).

Looks really good! a little tip if you ever paint rims again, just use note cards and slip them in between the tire and the wheel instead of taping it off. It saves a lot of time. Again looks awesome man, I love that color.

Ahhh damn good idea!

Have to admit it think the look better in silver. Just my 2 cents, but then again I may be a bit bias? LOL

I like the silver more bro.

imo bronze works well with 3 colors. White, blue, and black.

I like it. Got any pictures of the rims on the car before you painted them? I would have tried it leaving the lip silver though.

How long in between coats did you wait for it to dry? Hopefully long enough or it will flake.

+1 to silver > bronze

those were really nice shiny wheels, but it doesn't look bad in bronze either

if they diddnt have a universal lug pattern you could put volk stikers on them and no one would be able to tell that they werent real te37's

im really feelin the bronze btw

Thanks for all the comments... I'll get a better pic of them in the sunlight and post it up. I'm just not a silver/chrome wheel type of person. I went through 4 sets of wheels on my MSP when I had it and they were all dark colors. I thought about leaving the lip... but decided to go full wheel. Yup, I waited a few hours between coats to make sure they were not tacky at all, paint dries rather fast. In regards to the sleeper look... yeah, I agree... thing is... she's so slow, she might as well be ASLEEP! lol. I love her just the same...

...and oh yeah... I removed the door molding also a couple weeks ago.

Old color pic before I blacked out the headlights and removed the door molding:
