Official Exhaust Thread

been reading thru all of your exhaust setups and I can't seem to find anyone with the setup I was thinking of..... get muffler shop to bend up a mid-pipe from flex joint to muffler, I was quoted 150-175 locally then throw on the muffler outta the magnaflow catback kit (75$ from summit), find a pretty tip and your done. my main concern is the muffler won't come with the hangers so i was thinking of cutting the old ones off the stock muffler and rewelding them on the new one, and if it would be too loud w/o magnaflow's resonator. What you guys think?

No problem. I would suggest keeping your stock header on if you go with the CorkSport though. It sounds great with the stocker but raspy as all get out with an aftermarket header.

Post pics when you get it for sure! (2thumbs)

I was thinking about getting OBX headers since my stock ones are rusted to hell and back...

I had a Spooled^ header (basically an OBX knock-off) with my CorkSport Power Series header back exhaust and it was super raspy and loud. Fun for about a week then it just got annoying. So I installed a Magnaflow cat and that eliminated 90% of the rasp, but it was still loud. Not saying don't buy the CS, but just be careful with which exhaust you choose. If I were to do it all over again, I would buy another GReddy EVO2 catback.

I'll ask my buddy to post up the vid from a dyno-day of my car with the Spooled^ header and CS header back exhaust.

You got any suggestions for headers? I pretty much need from the headers back for my exhaust

Not really. They're all pretty much the same design. OBX seems like the best option as far as price/quality ratio. And I can't really help you out much on a complete system with a header since I only know a few local cats who had Protege's with a complete aftermarket exhaust system. But honestly, since you're replacing everything, I would go OBX header > SLS catted or catless midpipe > Racing Beat cat back. My friends 1.8l Protege has an OBX > catless midpipe > RB cat back and it sounds heavenly. Everything else I've heard in person is raspy.

I love CorkSport and their products but I personally wouldn't reccomend an OBX header and CS exhaust combo. Unless you're deaf already, then no worries. :)

Please bare in mind, this is simply only my opinion. Do some research and look on YouTube for sound clips and find one that you like the most.

if you want an exhaust that sounds good, dont get headers, I had headers->stock midpipe with cat-> megan racing cat back,
and it still didnt sound the same as when I had a catless midpipe to the megan racing cat back, with stock headers.

Just because your stock exhaust is rusty, I wouldnt mess with it, unless it has holes rusted in it

If you're j-pipe is rusted as s***, I may be throwin mine up FS soon. Only about 200 miles on it. All depends on if I go with a header or not...

in my opinion, an OBX header and magnaflow catback sounded the best (but droned like a MOTHER on the highway)

Ractive long tube header(if you can find one) killed the rasp in the exhaust but still sounded good (and much less drone) still using the magnaflow catback

I forgot about Magnaflow.

My buddies P5 has my old FS-DE with the Spooled^ header, MAM catted midpipe and Magnaflow cat back and it sounds really good too. Not raspy, it has a nice lower tone to it and doesn't drone too badly on the highway.

I think it's all about having a cat or not to combat the rasp. I think pretty much all the P5 exhausts drone on the highway expect for the Racing Beat. I completely lucked out with my exhaust setup; KLDE > OBX headers > CorskSport headers back (catless + 1 resonator) and it doesn't drone on the highway. But is loud as balls under WOT.

im sorry for being lazy. is there a downpipe option after the manifolds? my pre cat is in bad shape and there's a leak i cant seem to cure. looking maybe to replace the cat/downpipe section.

Running Magnaflow CB and resonator, single Imco cat, 4-2-1 header.
Deep, mellow, no rice, no rasp, no fart can racket, no drone.
Lightly noticeable when cruising at speed.
Passes inspection with no problem.
Purrfect...

For the same price you could just get a header and eliminate the stock manifold, pre cat, and j-pipe. I was a dumbass and spent $200 on just a new j pipe.

ouch. . . . you didn't look for someone selling a stock manifold? Or post a WTB thread?
