Official 2009 USDM Mazda6 thread

i like that key fob.

It's very very nice. I mentioned having one with that in an earlier post. The perf. leather is seen underneath it as well, which I wasn't too fond of. That fob actually has a nice build quality to it, not like the cheapy cards that the MS6 had.

My favorite:

The Mazda3 gave the Civic a run for its money. Something tells me this iteration of the 6 will do the same for the Accord and Camry.

I don't know. I think Mazda's got a long way to go before the general Camcord market thinks of the 6 along with those cars. When it came time for my mom to get a new car, even despite having had a '93 626 that she loved, just went and bought a Camry without even shopping or researching...or consulting my father or myself. :(

They do have a lot of ground to make up in the US, but here in Canada where Mazda's name is strong this car will give the competition everything it can handle.

I'm starting to think more and more that they might want to put DI on the 2.5 and the 3.7 to improve the fuel mileage, but we might not see that until the mid-cycle refresh. Good thing both engines still run on regular, not premium.

Its all nice and all but I would not want to replace one.

When Mazda came up with the jack knife type ones the price was ridiculous, but then they became cheaper in like ebay or so. The Mazda Advance Keyless Entry and Start System (with that key fob) comes with the i and s Touring and Grand Touring trims it seems, the rest of the trims still use the "old" one (and no push start button of course)

The rest of the world gets a different 6 than we are getting here in North America. Ours is bigger and heavier. A new Mazda6 MPS has nothing to do with NA models. Everyone else will get one, we will probably not.

This thread needs to get back on topic.

Anyways, we should see new US Mazda6's hitting the dealers in the first few weeks of August. Went to my local dealer to check out the RX-8 R3 (which is awesome BTW) and asked about the 09's. She said their first shipment would be there Aug. 11. More and more auto news companies should be seeing and reporting, and so far the reaction from them has been very positive. Let's hope that the sales reflect that.

Yeah, the marketing fellahs seem to have been busy. It is a cash cow for Mazda NA along with the Mazda3, so they need to hit hard from the start...

BEST BUY

"Growing Gains: Not only is the 2009 MAZDA6 bigger, it's quicker, quieter, sleeker, and smarter as well."
MotorTrend 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"If the customers want features, then the new MAZDA6 puts check marks in the right boxes there, too, with side and curtain airbags, stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and tire-pressure monitoring on all models."
CARandDRIVER.com 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"Bigger, Stronger and the Most Fun You Can Have in a Family Sedan."
Edmunds' Inside Line 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"2009 MAZDA6 Zoom-Zoomin' Mid-Size Market Shaker"
popularmechanics.com 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"Combine the back road prowess, however with gorgeous styling, high quality materials, and loads of interior and trunk space, and suddenly you have a zoom-zoom winner."
AUTOMOBILE Magazine 06.2008

MORE PERFORMANCE

"Smoothness and quietness - as well as basic vehicle dynamics - have been elevated to an entirely different plane."
MotorTrend 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"Steering is light and alive, yet it grooves in on straight-ahead when the path calls for it. Slack has been zeroed out of brake-pedal motion. Ride is well controlled without being harsh, and noises, both road and wind, are dialed way back. Bottom line: The Mazda 6 was never like this. Think Mazda 7."
CARandDRIVER.com 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"There's plenty of midrange torque and a smooth, refined feel near the 6,200-rpm redline. For anyone but the truly power-hungry, the 2.5 is plenty of motor for day-to-day driving."
Edmunds' Inside Line 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"Without question the 4-cyl MAZDA6 is the handling champ in the segment."
AUTOMOBILE Magazine 06.2008

"We certainly expected more powerand got it. Where the 2.5-liter four feels pretty peppy out on the road, the 272-hp V-6 is downright intoxicating. Coupled only to a six-speed automatic with manual shift mode, the MAZDA6 i models demonstrated great flexibility with a serious high-end punch."
popularmechanics.com 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

MORE STYLISH

"With its flaring front fenders, fast windshield, and coupelike slope of the rear glass, the shape is stylish and fast."
CARandDRIVER.com 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"Exaggerated wheel arches give the MAZDA6 an aggressive stance that you'll never see on the Honda Accord or Toyota Camry."
Edmunds' Inside Line 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"The interior is artful and tidily craftedbasically what weve come to expect from this inventive car company."
popularmechanics.com 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

BETTER THAN ITS COMPETITION

"The MAZDA6 is a hoot to drive, unlike its less sporty foes in the marketplace."
popularmechanics.com 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"My that's a big trunk. In fact, it's the biggest in the class at 16.6 cubic feet."
Edmunds' Inside Line 05.2008 (First Drive Review)

"In a class currently dominated by blas styling, the MAZDA6 has always been a breath of fresh air. Now with all of these improvements, this sedan will give the others a run for their money. Going bigger and heavier didnt affect this cars zip or nimble driving characteristics one bit. It remains closer to a sport sedan than any of its competitors."

Steve, have you

(or anyone else for that matter)

had a chance to test drive the 2.5L Mazda6 with the 6speed manual? I want to know what you think of that...... my GF wants to trade in her '05 V6, but I'd like to know which one she'd probably like/enjoy better, the 2.5L or the 3.7L V6.

My dealership (Mazda Naperville) will have 9 units coming in soon and I have dibs for a test drive. I'll make sure I will take pics. If I am impressed, I might lease one

I wish I could see the look on some people's faces when the speed6 goes on sale in 2010/2011(thumb) (like the ones saying it won't happen)

I have not. I'd like to, just to compare the two, but I have not been able to yet.

I now have the full final Canadian specs for 2009 6 in my hands. Gas mileage ratings are as follows:

2.5L 6-spd man: 27 city, 41 hwy.
2.5L 5-spd auto: 29 city, 42 hwy.
3.7L 6-spd auto: 23 city, 35 hwy.

Most of you will be happy to know the 6-spd manual for the 2.5L is geared for performance which is why the mileage is down from the auto, but the performance should be excellent.

I'm going to guess those numbers are for Imperial gallons, not US gallons.
