Official 2009 USDM Mazda6 thread

I now have the full final Canadian specs for 2009 6 in my hands. Gas mileage ratings are as follows:

2.5L 6-spd man: 27 city, 41 hwy.
2.5L 5-spd auto: 29 city, 42 hwy.
3.7L 6-spd auto: 23 city, 35 hwy.

Most of you will be happy to know the 6-spd manual for the 2.5L is geared for performance which is why the mileage is down from the auto, but the performance should be excellent.

I'm going to guess those numbers are for Imperial gallons, not US gallons.

US mileage ratings are up on www.fueleconomy.gov.

2.5L 6-spd man: 20 city, 29 hwy.
2.5L 5-spd auto: 21 city, 30 hwy.
3.7L 6-spd auto: 17 city, 25 hwy.

they smoked smothing and experimented a bit with the design didnt they
back = CX-9, front = meh, may be it will time to grow on me. (shrug)
:(

It's curious that when you convert the Canadian numbers to US gallons they are still significantly higher than the US ratings.

Could just be different testing methods. Japan's test cycle turns out notoriously high results. The US testing methods just changed last year because people kept complaining that they couldn't get what the EPA said their car should. With the new test, numbers dropped by 2-3 mpg pretty consistently across the board.

I have not. I'd like to, just to compare the two, but I have not been able to yet.

Well, let me know if you get the chance. I'm trying to wait for some car magazine's reviews on both models but so far I've still be waiting.

I kind wanted to see how the 2.5L manual compares to the 3.7L auto in terms of response, and fun, etc.

2009 Mazda6 Laguna Seca Moto GP Safety Car

Do the wheels look familiar?

Our friend Steve from Autofiends managed to snap the 2009 Mazda6 Safety Car that will debut at this weekends Laguna Seca Moto GP during the U.S. media presentation of Mazdas new mid-size sedan. Apart from the tasteful decals, the sexy alloy wheels in anthracite color and the red brake calipers, the Mazda6 Safety Car also seems to be equipped with a sports suspension bringing it closer to the ground. Until Mazda decides to present a successor to the Speed6, we guess this is as sporty as the Mazda6 gets.

I really love those wheels. I saw the R3 in person, great looking car. Just wish it had more power.

Agreed. I love the way that safety car looks. If those became the new MS wheel that would be awesome. I'm hoping that SEMA has a few new 6's with some goodies on them.

I've just seen the 2008 RX-8 40th anniversary, looks awesome as well. Same wheels, just different finish/color.

I doubt the next gen MS3 or MS6 will have those wheels, the spoke design resembles the rotary engine shape :(

I have to agree with you, but it was wishful thinking. I notice for those and for all 2009 RX-8s they have that style, but finish and size are the only things that change.

One thing about the new 6 I've noticed is I've yet to see one with a spoiler, and I'm not sure what it will look like. You can add it on the website, but it doesn't show you what it looks like. I'm hoping for a lip spoiler personally.

Yeah, it still looks a little bit flat without it. A spoiler should do the magic. This JDM one may actually fit, LOL, J/K (lol2)

No plans to release Mazda6 hybrid

Despite having the ability to snatch the 2.3-liter gasoline-electric hybrid from FoMoCo's arsenal the same engine found in the Mazda Tribute Hybrid, Ford Escape Hybrid and 2009 Fusion Mazda has decided to keep the new Mazda6 hybrid-free for the time being. Jay Amestoy, veep of public and governmental affairs for Mazda, told InsideLine that the automaker is content that the new 6 can hold its own against the competition, despite the high cost of fuel. "Our real-world MPG numbers will be strong, and we think the fuel economy is pretty good the way it is."

The 2009 Mazda6, equipped with the base 2.5-liter four and a manual transmission is rated at 20/29 mpg on the EPA's city/highway estimates, while the 3.7-liter V6-equipped model comes in at 17/25 mpg.

Sales of hybrids continued to rise, but consumer's tastes seem to favor dedicated hybrid models like the Prius, instead of hybrid sedans and cute 'utes based off normal models originally equipped with traditional powerplants.
