Official 2009 USDM Mazda6 thread

That's what I'm saying. Not that the new 4 cyl won't be more than adequate and enough power for everyday driving. There's just something nice about the sound and feel of a V6 growl under throttle. Incredibly lame to not even give the option to get it with a proper transmission.

no 5 door hatch or sport wagon. The funny thing is I've been seeing more of the 5doors and sport wagons than the sedan.

Yeah.... because these days people want MORE trunk space.... way to go Mazda.... idiots.

I'm a little disappointed in the fact that the v6 is only a 6 speed auto, and that the fact they didn't mention anything about the drivetrain, is it going to be AWD to compare against the Ford Fusions now? I was considering telling the GF to trade her 6 in and get one... she can still do it I suppose but auto, bleh.... if that engine makes 272hp with 270lbs torque does that mean those cars are going to be comparable to the mazdaspeed6 now?

I'm so disappointed some gramma in her v6 '09 Mazda6 is going to be able to keep up with me :(

Like Tinman said I'm still holding out hope for a new MS6 model... hopefully one that looks as hot as that prototype that Mazda created to show at the Tokyo autoshow. (and yes I'll be praying for the 3.7 v6 to be stuffed in it and twin turbo'd... that would be damn sweet!)

Yeah, I don't think we'll ever see the wagon with the Mazda 5 and CX-7 in the line-up. They could possibly add the hatch if the demand is high enough. I believe there thinking is that because of the ENORMOUS trunk this car will have the hatch isn't needed. We are talking 500L+ in trunk volume, it might be the largest trunk on the market.

My lease isn't up until October 09, so I can wait a year for the AWD to show up. All things being equal I would want a V6 AWD hatch, but I would consider the sedan with the large trunk.

I would prefer the hatch over the sedan, it's so much easier to have that "open" trunk space/are... because you can fold the seats forward and stick a TON of crap in there....

+2 ;)

You see? Not just talking IKEA non-sense :D, my wife measured the car when we bought it for IKEA stuff. Here is an example...

Those are a couple of multipurpose shelves and, as usual, "SOME" assembly is required (homework).

Not easy to see, but the small stroller is folded in the "aisle" between the 2 seats. In order to close the liftgate I needed to move the driver's seat 1-2 positions though...

I thought I saw a source saying that the V6 will indeed offer a 6sp manual.

As far as the whole hatch/wagon and AWD trims, think about it this way: If you were the brand manager for a car line, would you offer all that trim in the initial launch? Or would you release different trim in subsequent launches through the product's life cycle?

Think about that long and hard and how either scenario affects or sustains sales. ;)

Just another quick update for everyone:

Started carrying my camera with me when I go to work now, since I see most of them on my morning or lunch commute. Today I passed a black one, fully uncovered, with its headlights on. The one major thing was this was a more basic model than I've seen in the past. The area where the fog lights have been in the past was a solid lower grille, almost reminiscent of the 3rd gen Protege DX/LX lower grille. Very clean looking. Also, the headlamps are pretty neat looking IMO, with the amber running lamps located below the low beams.

The rear of the vehicle had the same style of taillights, though I noticed that the exhaust valences weren't present on this one like the others I've seen. Also, I have yet to see one with a spoiler.

Cool, do you think is also gonna come with the DRLs like the current US model?

Hard to say. I didn't think mine had DRLs, unless you're referring to the small ambient lights in the high beams, or the side markers, or something else? I passed them at 7:45am, so it was still early.

I have not seen a MazdaSPEED6 lately, but all the 07, 08 Mazda6s (i and s) I've seen seem to have DRLs (you know, headlights on, taillights off). You may be right, there might be only the ambient ones, but they look bright (and I like the looks too)

I'll have to look into that...not sure myself.

I'd at least offer the hatch up front... probably wait to release the wagon... the reason why is a lot of these "brand managers" don't listen to what people want... Supposedly the Mazda6 makes more hatch sales than sedan sales.

I mean JUST to have a sedan.... that might push people who want a hatch or wagon not to get it. Plus it will piss of a lot of people who bought the sedan thinking a hatch isn't going to be made (since the sales guys really don't know much about cars... I recall one guy telling me the mazdaspeed6 was twin turbo and I was like riiiiiiiiiiiight) They may ask about if a hatch is ever going to come out. and a sales guy will either not know, or he may know but just lie to them in order to make a sale.

If I had the choice I wouldn't be buying the sedan, mazda would lose their money from me because I'd be waiting for the hatch... and if I see another car I like, or I end up waiting and saving more money, I might be hard pressed to go with a more expensive car that I would like to cruise around in (like possibly a Lexus IS 350).

There's always pros and cons when it comes to doing things like that.... offering more options is always a plus for consumers, they have more choices to choose they may be more likely to buy.

It also depends where you live..... There are several states that require daytime running lights. Safety issues or whatever. Where I live (Florida) is not one of them... so the only time you'll see a car with DRLs is a person moved here from a state with their car equipped with DRLs or they just have them turned on, My MS6 doesn't have DRLs.... I'm not sure but I think a few in California may have them?

I just passed a few current model 6's on the way home (MI) and none had DRLs on. I'm thinking like Koenig that it might be a region specific thing. I know Canadian cars need to have them, but none of the US ones do.

Are you sure? I though California had to have DRLs on their cars. I guess not, but some car companies can have them installed. I do believe they come as an option in some states. I don't know about MAzda, but I do know GM garnered for that to be able to put them on their cars.

I also noticed the guy asking about DRLs is from the NorthEast... so it's a possibility he's actually seeing Canadian Mazda6s that are just coming into the states for whatever reason. Since Canada requires DRLs

Nope, USDM (Pennsylvania) cars, not Canadian. I know for Canadian cars DRL are the law (i.e. the Mazda5 itself of course). There was a discussion somewhere here in the forum not so long ago, as the USDM GMs come with it and, strangely enough, the recent (07/08) USDM Mazda6 (out of all USDM Mazdas). Again, I've seen many locals with their lights "on" during the day :D

I think it's an option though. as to whether you want it on or not, like they're making some with it and some without it, and people are just buying whatever.

Got it. I posted the question in the Mazda6 area, let's see. I'm just possibly going looney (silly)

Who knows, at first I thought you were some where far northeast, like Maine or New York, so maybe you were seeing some Canadian cars, but in PA.... yeah, I dunno, maybe people are just driving with the "parking lights" on?

I know the speed6 has parking lights and its this small ambient light that you can see on the car when driving, but gives off very little light in means of actually being able to see in front of you.
