ewww, what do you get when you cross a RX-8 with a truck? 2009 6!! only the front tho, i dont mind the back.
I really like the rear end of this much better than the JDM version, but the front definitely needs some help. I'm going to wait and see how different the mechanicals are before I pass judgement, though. If they DO end up being the same size and same mechanicals, we may just end up with a new MS6. I'm sure they'd fix the problems with this front end on that.

Whatever attempts to keep the "old" Mazda6 rear style alive failed, good thing they haven't done that to the rest of the USDM cars (yet :'()
Meh. I never liked those taillights. I preferred the old red ones. When are designers going to realize that Altezzas knockoffs look cheap and ricey?

I think this is a Mazda thing, they are just weird with taillight design. I have 2 variations on my 2 cars (altezza and non-altezza). The models are separated by 2 years and yet not growing fully on me. Problem is, there is no too much after-market for those (and FWIW, they would end up being Altezzas as 98% of the after-market styles)

Unfortunately, if you can't get OEM red tails, you're stuck with Altezzas 90% of the time.

Guys, I'm gonna try to be the voice of reason here. This is only the very first one we've seen. Wait until we see the entire line up, from i Sport to S Grand Touring. We all know that they can end up looking different amongst trim levels, take the first Mazda 3s that came out. The i looked like garbage, but the s looked great IMO. Wait till April before we completely count them out.

Ok, after looking at it some more and talking to several sources, this one is a pretty well equipped one. If you look close enough, you can see the LEDs in the taillights, and the wheels appear to be around 18" in size. I would say this is probably at least a V6 Touring, if not a GT.

Yup, the V6 badge is in there. I still don't get it, automakers have to adapt their models to the different markets, that is a fact, but Mazda has been smart enough to listen to the markets as far as I know, so if the US has been voicing (2thumbs) for the European and JDM models, why spending money on extra design work? The only thing that came to mind is: OK to move license plate location to where the current model is, but for the rest?
Anyway, I'll wait until I see it in-person, possibly this car is not just photogenic (freak)

One of the biggest complaints about the first gen 6 was that it was smaller than the Accord and Camry which were in its class. Yes, the styling was there, but the size killed some of its sales. With the new 6, they wanted to be right on par to go after those sales with a slightly larger platform. I still think its more attractive than the Camry, Accord, and even the Malibu.

As per the size, some numbers (I had to convert millimeters to inches for the Atenza, so bear with me (scratch)). Note I'm comparing against the Toyota Avalon FWIW. I'm glad the Atenza is yet not that big

Recent photos of an undisguised U.S.-spec 2009 Mazda 6 prototype illustrate the exterior differences between the U.S. and European version, and the latest spy photos are offering the opportunity to compare interiors as well.
Although the general look is the same for both cars, the U.S Mazda 6 gets a new steering wheel and revised switches. Phone, mode, volume and an up/down toggle switch are on the left, and cruise control is on the right.
Missing from this automatic prototype are paddle shifters like those seen on the Japanese-spec automatic-equipped Mazda Atenza unveiled at last year's 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. It's not yet known if paddle shifters will be optional on the U.S. Mazda 6.
Other interior changes include relocating the engine Start/Stop button from the dashboard to the center stack near the automatic shifter, and a slightly altered instrument pod.
What this means to you: As a 2009 model, the new Mazda 6 should hit showrooms by early next year.
