So I have a question, is there anyone else on here that has Night Terrors? Now I am not talking nightmares, but Nigth Terrors. Nightmares are just a walk in lolly-pop land compared to Night Terrors. I am rather curious to see if anyone else does, and how you might deal with having them.
I am asking this because over the last year I started to get them again. I used to have them as a very young child, and than they went away. However, they are back and worse than ever!
There are times at night where I wake up out of a dead sleep just scared to s***, with my jaws hurting because of myself gnashing my teeth together. The scary part is, I don't remember anything, but I do know that I have been getting violent while having them. Since they have come back I have almost broken my hand from hitting what I assume is the wall, I have scares because of injurys I have inflicted on myself somehow. On top of that, I fear for the saftey of my fiance who of course sleeps with me, and my son's who although isn't born yet(bout 4 more weeks) will be sleeping with us in the room. I am not so much afriad that I will hurt them directly, but in-directly. I have broken my foot during these episodes, among other injuries.
Some of this may sound like rambling, and I apologies but I am very concerned about them coming back. I stay up as late as possible, simpley because I know when I go to sleep I will probally have one. It is effecting almost everything I do. I have researched Night Terrors, and other than medicating myself with presciptions I don't see much other way of helping prevent these.
I guess what I am trying to do is see if anyone else has these, and what maybe if your willing to share, you do to deal with them. I am trying to see if I can find maybe a more common cause/remedy for this thing.
The only good news I guess that I found out about this, is that it doesn't mean you have some phsycological issues...which is good. But still....
For those of you who might not know what I am talking about, here is a little snipit from http://www.nightterrors.org/

....Night terrors have been shown to appear in stage 4 of sleep. This is what separates them from nightmares which can occur anytime in sleep. It is possible to make a night terror occur in some people, simply by touching or awakening them during stage 4 of sleep. Why night terrors occur is still a mystery. The mind is supposed to be practically void during the deeper stages of sleep. The subject will awake gasping, moaning, crying but more often screaming. Breathing rapidly they will sit up in bed with a wide eyed terror filled stare. This panic will often last anywhere from five to twenty minutes. I find the most amazing aspect of night terrors is that it generates a heart rate of 160 to 170 beats per minute. This is much faster than the normal heart rate that can be attained under most stressful circumstances.....
