Night Terrors.....

I don't have night terrors but I do talk in my sleep and sometimes sleep walk. My Wife never tells me what I say to her. It is pretty wierd feeling yourself move about and speak to someone but not being able to remember what you said or did.
It reminds of the main character out of Fight Club.

You know, as a community and someone is asking for help, you guys need to STFU unless you have something to contribute. The guy comes on here in PUBLIC and asks for advice, you think that was easy??? There's NOTHING wrong with that. And yeah, there's a million different ways he could have asked, but he chose this route because apparently he didnt think you guys were so immature to act like elementary kids and bully him about it. Idiots bashing on a guy you DONT know and know nothing even about the damn subject. Especially one with 25 posts and JUST JOINED the forum this freggin month. Heartless know-it-all trolling noobs. Lay off. It's a community not a slug fest. Its also called off topic, get used to it because if nothing else.. there are more opinions, questions and advice in this section more than anywhere else on here. If you dont like it, go back to your matchbox cars and smoke more weed. I didnt know smoking pot also burns personality cells too.

As far as your night terrors, everyone at one time or another HAS experienced one. Some people DO wake with a fright, slap & fight in their sleep not knowing they are doing it in real life, sweat, cry, etc. When your body is asleep it's hard for the brain to deceipher what's real and what's not. Your brain is constantly going a mile a minute with no rest. Even when you're sleeping and continue to dream, have nightmares or night "terrors".... you will feel as though you had not gotten any sleep at all. The reason for that is that your brain needs sleep to recharge itself. And if you had it going all night, it wont be rested and relaxed in the morning. Some people contribute these terrors to stress... family, work, relationships, etc. Others think it's something deeper. My advice is to try to not stress over the small stuff, nap during the day if possible, dont drink caffinated drinks before going to bed, excersize to tire yourself out, watch good programing (not horror films, surgery shows, action or gore movies, etc.) before going to bed.. something less "threatening". IF there is a sleep clinic nearby and this has been an ongoing problem for years and night to night, seek help.

These night terrors do NOT MEAN BY ANY CHANCE IN HELL that you are psyco. Everyone has had one before as I said, no one is immune. Some may not remember it since it may have been years. But I'm sure some of us has had a bruise or two when waking and thought to ourselves... how the heck did THAT get there? So dont feel bad.

^^ What she said! Getting personal doesn't get us anywhere. Keep it logical and stick with the topic so that the discussion can continue. For starters, I have not heard of Night Terrors and I would like to learn more about it. But all these personal bashings makes things hard to read. Thanks :)

Hell yeah, lay it on...

I've had these before, but it's so infrequent that I didn't pay much attention to it. I'm usually very suggestible by my dreams and sleep - I always have vivid dreams and emotions from my sleep carry over into my mornings constantly. Once in a while I catch myself reaching for something or flinching trying to avoid something, but I'm not sure if that's related to night terrors.
I used to sleep walk but that hasn't happened since I was 12 or something.
I wish I could give you some advice on the subject but I guess the general consensus is just try to relax. Assess your lifestyle and see what gives you stress. Go easy on strong violent stimulus and try to lighten up things in your life.
What does your wife think of these terrors?

wtf r u doin asking us? you want my advice? go see a doctor if u really care about ur pregnant girl. You think maybe after you broke your foot that might hint you to ask a doctor about ur "Dreams". I pity you for your lack of common sense.

You're a ******* dick man. This is the off-topic forum after all jerk off.

I think I might have experienced this before... but it's very rare. I'll wake up in the middle of the night afraid yes, but also VERY sad.... like I've just seen my grandmothers head blown off with a 12guage or something. idk it's hard to explain, but it's the worst feeling I can tell you that.

Anyways, I love REM sleep... that s*** is awesome!

I would try exercising, reducing some stress in your life, and keeping a regular sleep pattern. Try going to bed as close to the same time every night if possible and wake up around the same time too. If that doesn't help then I think sometimes Night Terrors can be treated with prescription drugs.

What does your wife think of these terrors?

Scares the crap out of her, and she is worried for me.

Although the wierd thing is, she talks in her sleep A LOT, maybe something wierd in our house is causing it.

I've never had night terror, but I talk in my sleep, and have yelled on occasion. Once I kept yelling the same s*** over and over, cause in my dream I could barely hear myself. The nexxt morning my sister said she could hear me pretty well though. It's hard to yell when your body shuts off most of your muscle control though, lol.

I have kinda experience sleep paralysis. I awoke from being too hot in my room(I passed out with my clothes on). I tried to take my shirt off but I couldn't move.

Going to a sleep clinic sounds like a good idea IMO. Hope everything works out ok for you man.

If I were you, I'd try some sort of work out just like dude said "it doesn't need to be a fulll workout, that usually keeps me up, but a 2 mile walk with my wife and dogs in the evening helps a lot to relieve stress and leads to much better sleep quality." if that fails, maybe a little rip of 2 of some bomb chronic, then next step sleep clinic.

I've had crazy stuff like that in my sleep before too, do you ever hear a really loud vibration or hum right before you wake up???

dreams are really crazy, and they do reflect your daily life and any sort of worries/stress will be represented somehow

Not necessarily. I saw a documentary on sleep disorders a while back. They said that often times when people move around in there sleep, flailing arms, legs, etc. that these movements just happen and the dream that accompanies these movements is simply a story that the brain creates to explain the body movements. I can't remember if they explained the cause of the movements in the first place, but I think it was something to do with muscle memory.

I agree w/those who suggested exercise - it will do wonders for the quality of your sleep. I understand your theory for staying awake as long as possible so you don't experience this for too long per night but that may be harming you more than helping. Not getting enough sleep has more effect on one's body than most realize. Try maybe getting a little exercise (not too soon before sleeping b/c that will just energize you) and maybe going to bed a little earlier, just to relax and calm your body. You might also try some soothing scents in your room as well. Whatever you choose to do I hope it helps, many of these suggestions could I've read so far can go a long way to helping you. :)

I dont think I've ever had night terrors. And I haven't had a nightmare since I was a young kid, not that I'm old now but still. The only real nightmare I cacn remember from when I was young was that there was this sort of plane grid and there were 2 balls rolling around and one was huge and the other tiny. Well th bigger ball would chase the little one and then just about squash it. Just before it squashed it I would wake up gasping for air and run towards my parents room and cry for a while. Not your average nightmare and also not like the falling off a building and waking up before you go splat either. Wierd. I should get it explained one day.

But best thing for you to do is go to a sleep clinic and a psych

thanks but I seem to find nothing to go along with my dream. Maybe I'll ask someone later on in life.

I have seen some good suggestions on here, the excersice being one of them. Since the topic of working out was brought up, I do remember that when I was working out a lot they seemed to not happen as often.

After my son is born my fiance and I do plan, and probally will start taking walks with him so hopefully that will help some, on top of my regular working out that I am starting again.

Some mild exercise will help your wife as well - that is if she's not already doing this or unless she's bedridden as some women are close to delivery. If you can, try to start walking as soon as possible, you'll both be happier for it. :)

Just curious... do you have older bothers or sisters??? Cause that would explain the large ball chasing the smaller one around. Just a thought.

And as far as Andrews night terrors, that would be a long shot, but how long have you lived in this house or apartment? If the terrors have been going on for two years and you've lived at the same place for two years..... one word for you...... redrum. lol

I've been experiencing night terrors with my six year old son recently. He seems to get them when he gets stressed out about stuff (that's how we found out his 10 year old brother's friends were picking on him). Its pretty common in kids his age.

Is it possible that the imminent birth of your child is causing you some anxiety?

this has nothing to do with night terrors, but i have weird control over my dreams

i can control what happens in my dreams by talking to myself in them and i can actually tell myself to wake up and i will wake right up

i have alot of sex dreams and in certain situations, like public sex, which would be way to embarrassing to do in real life i just tell myself in my dream that it is a dream and all the people are fake and dont matter and i just go at it with the girl in the middle of a mall or something while people just walk right by

can anyone else control their dreams like this?

works pretty good:)
