Night Mode for the CX-70 Navigation Screen?

I don't drive at night very often, but recently, I've had a couple longer drives at night an even though my screen is set to Auto for the infotainment screen, it doesn't auto adjust. I have to remember to go into settings and choose night, if I don't want the screen bright, like it would be during daylight driving. Has anyone else noticed this and am I perhaps not understanding Automatic in settings?

You may have inadvertently cancelled the dimmer:

Function for canceling illumination dimmer

The illumination dimmer can be canceled by pressing the + switch while the instrument cluster is at maximum dimness and while the vehicle power is switched ON. If you press the + switch again while the illumination dimmer is canceled, a sound is activated to notify you that it is canceled. If the instrument cluster's visibility is reduced due to glare from surrounding brightness, cancel the illumination dimmer.

Thank you youri. I'm not sure I completely understand, but I will try to follow it and hope it helps with the automatic night/day mode.

Hey youri, your directions were a bit more than I needed. What I got from them, however, is all you have to do is tap the Minus (-) button for the lights and boom, the navigation screen goes into night mode. I wish there was a way to increase the brightness on the instrument cluster a little brighter, as it dims too, but I think overall, it's fine. I'll be curious to see how it all looks during the day and whether the instrument cluster remains dimmed, but if it does, all you have to do is tap the plus (+) button and you get a brighter instrument cluster.

Thank you again, for taking the time to help me. It's GREATLY appreciated!

I tried to add a picture to make it clearer but it wouldn’t load. Glad you figured it out.

It is supposed to adjust back to full bright in the day automatically. To summarize it:
The + and - button allow you to adjust how bright the dashboard is at night, but there is an override mode to turn the dashboard back to full brightness (by pressing the + mode all the way passed max brightness).

This is useful in situations where the screen may dim when you don’t want to. (For example at night dawn when it gets dark enough for the auto light to trigger but it is still too bright outside for the dimmed screen to be readable).

Pressing “ -“ turns the override function off.

I am guessing your override function was turned how by mistake or by the dealer in the garage. You shouldn’t have to touch it again unless in special situations like I mentioned above.

Every car dashboard that relies on the lights to make the dashboard visible during the day (either digital or analog where the numbers need to be lit up to be visible in the day) have this function in one form or another. For example in my Mazda 6 2004 the numbers on the dash were red lights instead of stamped numbers, and it had that function. But it is very poorly known, I think most people don’t know about it.

So VERY helpful. I truly appreciate your help with this. I remember reading the owner's manual on this and it wasn't very clear on this. I'm more used to other cars, where the car automatically turns to night mode for the navigation screen, but the instrument cluster is unaffected. In other words, they are independent. But Mazda, essentially has them tied to each other.

At least I get it now!

Thanks again!
