Newbie question about Suspension

I'm new to the world of modding cars. I've been following the MP5 since before it came out. I finally was able to find a used '02 this past Oct. (I like the '02's better than the '03's...personal preference) Anyways...onto my question.

What is the difference between Lowering Springs and Coilovers?

I've seen pictures of them, and they look the same to me. I talked to a friend of mine, and he said something about how coilovers come with struts/shocks, but when I found them at Flyin' Miata...it's just the adjustable spring.

Any light would be better than the darkness.

First off, welcome...If you haven't been formally welcomed, Sir Nuke will be along soon to do the honors.

Anyway, with your questions...
Suspension setups come in many different varieties.
-Lowering springs (Eibach, Tein, etc) are just that, they replace your original springs a set amount. No adjustment. These run around $200 a set.
-Coliovers (Ground Control, Skunk2) are basically adjustable sleeves (springs) that fit over your stock struts/shocks. The spring is either compressed or relaxed depending on the adjustment to change the ride height. Adjustable from an inch or so up or 3-4" down. These run from about $350-$700 a set.
-Full Coilover setup (Tein, JIC) this setup is the best and the most expensive ($1200-$2000), It includes new strust/shocks and adjustable sleeves that are all made to work in unison to give you the best height adjustabilaty while maintaining ride quality.

Hope that helps., BTW, There is no difference between the 2002 and 2003 P5, except for a few minor changes that are barely noticable except for Canada that got different headlight housings.

And about the differences between 02 and 03... I don't like the rims or the size/shape of the turn signal on the fender. I know a lot of people like it there, but I just didn't like the shape. I'm thinking of designing my own...but that's neither here nor there...I love my MP5!!
