New CM clutch already fried?

if rishie is looking into getting esedy to make a setup for ours cars then I would jump on that for ayone planning large hp numbers....Beau has a great setup with the spec clutch and I am not doubting it holds alot better and longer than CM, its just if you go through any import magazine and the big bad companies making the badd ass cars like the 600hp evo and rex's all use EXedy clutches...like spec their sprung hub designs are supposed to feel close to stock and handle anywhere from 450-600hp.

all that said, if it doesnt go through with ArD and the exedy the custom Spec setup from Beau is #1./
Spec can make a full face clutch that will hold 700-800HP for the protege. It will feel horrible for the street, but it will hold the power.

Are you serious Linux? Is it that close to stock pedal feel? How is the engagement, short, long, towards the end of release, beginning of release? Well, I guess some of that depends on how the pedal is set, huh?
I am definately getting the SPEC, I sold my brand new ACT clutch so that I could get the same one to hold the 500 ponies it will see once Beau is finished with my car. :D
Dead serious man. I rolled with the ACT Stage II for almost 3 years with no problems, but the pedal was more than twice as resistant as stock when you went to push it! (eek2) I find it very nice that the Spec holds more power, but yet feels stock when the pedal is depressed. Got mine from Beau.

Ahhhh- drove the car this morning and had it slip in 3rd!!!!!! Could the flywheel be warped? Or a clutch line damaged?

I don't see how a damaged clutch line could do it, the pressure plate is naturally in the clamped or engaged position and needs clutch pressure to release off the flywheel. If the flywheel was warped, I think you would get a lot more jumping and jerking. Shuttering, that's the word I'm looking for.
My $.03

I agree. I would think a warped fly wheel will feel different than a slipping clutch.

Could the pedal adjustment slipped somehow? Is the clutch pedal all the way out when you are slipping?

Yes no pressure on the clutch when it slips. Like I said it's always past 4K in 4th and 5th gear and happens when I have 75% or more throttle pressure.

I've had two cars with bad clutches- this one included when the stock clutch finally went- so I know what a slipping clutch feels like and this is definately it! I just don't see how my stock mazda clutch lasted 11K under boost (20K total) and this "performance" clutch lasted about the same.... WTF? I have 31K miles onthe car and this will be the 3rd clutch ahaha. good god- plus I'm riding on my 3rd set of tires and my second set of struts.

Spec here I come!!!

More driving today (150 miles) and tried lots of things to test the cluch... It was very inconsistent inthat it slipped a ton during the first 10 minutes of dirving after cooling down, but I expected that.... As long as I didn't go full throttle it never slipped- even up to 6k rpm..

But of course 85% of the time while in 4th or 5th gear if I slam the peddle down it will slip at 4K and up. I'm just in awe that an aftermarket clutch would wear this bad this fast.

same thing for me....exactly...but I have trouble in 3rd also.

hmmm I guess it's different for different applications. My stock clutch lasted longer under boost than this one. Would be nice to get money back or something :) But this spec clutch should be the real deal- this time I'll do it right.

Now slipping REALLLY bad at anything over 3K in 3rd 4th and 5th gear... This sucks. My spec 3 will be installed next week sometime. I contacted R-R racing (who sold me the stage IIR and this is what they said:

<<Hi Scott, sorry you didn't get good life out of it. I would contact Clutchmasters (ph # at www.clutchmasters.com), perhaps they can inspect the lpressure plate for you and replace it if they find it defective. I can't imagine that a IIR would only last 11k miles, thats very poor life for this clutch, its not typical at all.>>

:(

I run the Spec stage 2. No one was doing the Spec's when I got mine, so the hybrid was unavailable. MPNick uses specs on most of his stuff and he recommended it to me. My pedal feals stock and it starts to engage real quick. I only have to lift my foot a little bit and it is engaging. Spec is definatly the s***!!! I slipped it once racing, but that was because I rode it a bit fom 1st to 2nd and it got hot. Not 1 hint of slippage other than that 1 time. It's been in since January.

yeah bro I can't wait to get mine installed. It'll be nice to be able to utilize my turbo once again!! lol Ic an't even get into boost or I start to slip. I plan on sending the CM clutch to clutch masters to see if there was a defect and possibly get somekind of refund or something???? It's pretty much hopeless but it's worth a try.

Already have my spec stage III hybrid ordered from Beau and I think it came in on Friday. I just have to pick it up and pay for it :)

You will love it.(cool) The pedal almost feels stock. Just a little stiffer.

i like my ACT street/strip, i beat the s*** out of it at the track etc...still clamps like the day i put it in...

just as reference... i have the ACT organic setup... slips at about 14 (250 hp) psi I guess... (Terry had issues with it on the dyno and so forth but I ran it up to about 12 psi and didn't have slippage issues. ). So you need something more than that if you plan to run the higher boost levels...

I'm switching to the Spec Stage III or Stage III hybrid soon... I'll be selling my ACT clutch if anyone ends up wanting it after I verify it has life left in it.. Likely super cheap (75-100 depending on the condition). Doesn't have much for miles on it... probably 15,000 or less.
