New CM clutch already fried?

wow the clutch looks nice!!! And it looks like the fidanza looked just fine after 3 years. Sheesh mine's only been in 7 months- I bet it looks great.

You say I need to get my own pilot bearing?
Yeah, get your own pilot bearing. Either go with OEM from Mazda, or you can go to Oriley's/HiLo and get a Federal Mogul bearing for like $10.

Pat - OK, it looks just like my 6 puck except with "filler" in between the "pucks". I guess that makes it more streetable. What's the price on those anyway? I may go with one of those next time.
I got a good-ass deal on mine, and am not at liberty to discuss my price. The retail price I believe for it is like $365-$385 (for whole the kit)?

That is what the Stage III costs, but I think the hybrid is more...

Well, when I talked to the Spec sales guy (works for Spec), that is what he told me for the SZ943H Hybrid kit.

Dumb Question: Where should I take my stock FW to get resurfaced? Could the dealership that is doing my install take care of that?

Any machine shop, or decently equipped auto shop can do it. All you have to do is sand down the surface to make it look like brushed aluminum would look.

Yes, the quote I got for my clutch install included a resurfacing of my fidanza flywheel. It's almost always a given if you're doing a clutch install unless t comes with a enw flywheel...

On the spec III hybrid- that's the price range I've seen for it.

Linux check your pm- I just got your message.

well that's a rather reasonable price for the hybrid. It's what I have in my budget for this engine build... so :)

I'll be getting the Spec full face clutch from Beau this week (it is not the iron disk). I will post pics of it when I can. The price is in the $500-600 dollar range but that is because it is so highly specialized. Beau was back and forth for days with Spec trying to put together a nice clutch that would hold over 600ft*lbs torque and still be close to stock pedal feel. Beauhhahhahhahhhah (evil)

unless the fidanza flywheel istelf is somehow two parts then it is likely the bearing.

but now looking at their website the insert may well be the actual friction surface as that fasten onto the flywheel assembly...

RIGHT! You will notice all the screws on the friction surface:

Also, Scott, look at the center of the flywheel. There is your pilot bearing. :)

Linux--That's the clutch I have!!!! So what makes it a stage III hybrid, is it a different pressure plate or something. My disk was EXACTLY like that and the pressure plate looked EXACTLY like that too.

I used the bearing that came with my kit and I believe the material on the disk is some type of kevlar, that's what the guy told me anyway.

Wow today is the worst day ever for my car. It takes like 2 minutes to get up to 40mph because the damn thing slips under more than like 10% throttle pressure.... WTF. How is it getting so bad so fast?

Wierd..I can accelerate moderately through 1 and 2nd gear...then I have to feather the throttle in 3rd and up.

My clutch should be here on friday....install next week monday.

I am extremely confident it has something to do with the flywheel.

hmmmm but what though? The clutch just couldn't handle the flywheel? Or do you think the flywheel got damaged?

There are others on here withour same flywheel- but different clutch- who are just fine with it.. Maybe teh clutch was too weak.
