New CM clutch already fried?

damn that thing got owned.

how many miles on that bad boy?

obviously the clutch plate was the culprit, but do we really know if that is the problem? Maybe the steel friction surface on the FW was too soft?

Stock clutch back in- so now if this clutch fails- we can't blame the fidanza....

It's now for sale :)

So how many miles to break int he clutch 300? And this is not going into boost?

I talked with michael at SRD (the folks doing my install) www.superiorracing.com and he doesn't seem to think the flywheel would cause it but he says you never know. He mentioned that sometimes people have trouble with aluminum flywheels.

If it turns out the flywheel was causing a problem we'll go with a heavier cro-moly (I beleive that's the right word) flywheel, but he's doubtfull the flywheel is the cause.

They're going to start tearing it apart either tomorrow or Monday and he says he'll take pictures. One thing is for sure SRD is one class act and they know how to make FAST cars, hence their 10 second civic.
What kind of problems would the aluminum flywheel cause?

good post :) I agree- I've learned a lot about FW's and clutches through this whole thing.
I had a CM clutch and fidanza flywheel installed 6k miles ago. Shorty after install I noticed a small clicking noise from tranny area. It only occured when engine was idling and cooling/ac fans were on. Seems to go away when above 1k RPM's.

A thread that I read said it was due to the alum Flywheel's heat expansion causing some slop in the pilot bearing. I got a little nervous and thought I would have to pay for someone to go in and fix it and heard there could be mojor problems with drivetrain.

I exchanged some e-mails with Rafi from RR Racing and he said, "I have installed many of these flywheels and never had a problem whether
I used the Loctite or not... that said, I would just leave this pilot
bearing in place, as it is not really very critical part, maybe the
noise will go away. It wont hurt the drivetrain... that bearing doesn't do much, I haven't heard the noise, but unless it gets worse you are probably ok.
bottom line is though that Fidanza is not likely to pay your $XXX installation charge... that's just the way it is.... but if you want, you can take it up with them (xxx-xxx-xxxx is their phone number)."

Well anyway, it still sounds the same since then 4k miles. I hear more noise doe to header, AWR mounts installed. Just don't want this to be a problem in the future.

I love the Clutch though........it takes a beeting and never slips or smells burnt.

Well, I am getting bitched at to get off the comp........

I assume you mean the stock flywheel?

bahahah ya oops- not stock clutch  The stock flywheel is back in.... The Fidanza flywheel is now up for sale. I'll put it up once I figure out the exact condition of it.

how many miles did you put on it and how does it look compared to when it was new?

I put between 11-13K miles on it after installation before it went out completely. It started slipping about 3 weeks ago and then it only took 3 wweeks to completely come apart.

hehe Look up the stage II-R clutch on google images or something and look at the difference between new and now.

Well picked the car up today and had plans to drive it 58 miles up to my GF's house, but realized along the way that I was about to overheat.... So I pulled over- let the car cool down to find out I had almost NO coolant/water in my radiator!!! I must have a leak.. So anyways filled that up and ended up meeting her halfway.. So I have 50 miles ont he new clutch/LSD /Flywheel so far..

The clutch seems pretty touchy but I got used to it real fast. I was used to a bad clutch for quite sometime. this thing engages like a monster!!!! And it's not hard to drive. Since I'm in my :breaking in" period I haven't really boosted above 4psi so I haven't really tested out the LSD, but in do time.

The big problem I'm having right now is that I'm stalling again in neutral... The RPM's just shoot all the way down and it either dies or the battery jump starts it. I had this same problem after I installed the MPI tuner. I'm thinking they disconnected the battery and reset the ECU so now it has to learn my maps all over again.???? All I know is that it sucks- but am sure it will get better.

Props to SRD for an awesome install onthe clutch and LSD. They said they had no issues at all and no issues with the speedo gear.

Wow, more driving, still stalling but the clutch is amazing!!!! Adn the LSD is killer. I can take corners and keep the pedal down without ANY jumping around or wheel hop. VERY NICE!! :)

4,000k miles on clutchmaster stage 1, 1k miles boosted. Clutch is slipping like crazy and is worthless.

They only quoted me for 2 hours after the clutch was pulled... So if you were going to get a new clutch installed just add the cost of the LSD plus whatever the shop charges for two extra hours of labor. I got a small deal since I got so much done at once.

Honestly once you have the tranny out to do the clutch the LSD is so unbelievably easy it isn't funny! Two hours is about right, but could be done in less if you had done it several times... Don't know anybody like that :) LOL..

brief update.... im at 24K miles now, 16K on CM Stage IIR and still no slipping whatsoever. Clutch is holding the thumper power fine; 250+ whp for all of 16K miles.

I never downshift to slow down, so i am wondering if driving style has an affect on the clutch life as well.

oh well, just filling people in.
