New CM clutch already fried?

Steve brought up an interesting point. I wonder if the fidanza flywheel has anyhting to do with this?

IT's jut odd as this doesn't feel like a normal "bad clutch" I can still shift gear with the pedal barely pressed down, and it engages great in first and second but in 3rd 4th and 5th it's HOrrendous at anything over 3K rpm.

How can a flywheel disfunction? Is the clutch maybe not seating correctly?

BINGO...that is what I am thinking... how you discribe shifting is EXACTLY the same for me.

Regardless...when they open up the tranny... the fidanza is coming OFF... and the stock flywheel is going back on.

Hopefully I will have it done this week.

I do wonder if it is part of the issue. It's happened to enough people. Kooldino had similar problems. He switched to a spec clutch and has been fine now, but I believe his ACT when to hell or wasn't grabbing in rather short order with him having that fidanza in there. If he pops in here he'll have a better explanation, but I do remember him having clutch issues. With several people all with fidanza's having problems on decent brand clutches it does seem suspect.

I would definitly go with the Spec Hybrid. We have Spec make us a clutch that will hold 400-450HP and still be almost stock pedal feel.If there's enough interest we can do a GP on there clutches.
What's this a "hybrid" of? More info, plz.

YP5- It's funny how you and I have the exact same symptoms, and the exact same clutch/flywheel combo. It will be interesting to see what the prob was.

I will likely have my install done on Friday.

I had my ACT clutch in for almost 3 years, and have driven more miles than ANYONE, and never had any issues with my ACT and Fidanza Flywheel. Now with my Spec Stage III Hybrid, I have no issuse still with my Fidanza Flywheel.

The hybrid is a clutch Beau has made Spec make custom. Basically it's a stage III but is given the "stock clutch" pedal feel.

Basically my issue was this:

ACT clutch was driven for 1.5 years. One night, I turned up the boost from ~8psi to ~11psi, and all of a sudden when I floored it, the car would rev for a few seconds before it would go anywhere. My theory was that the clutch would slip for a second before it would grab.

I know have a 6 puck Spec clutch. It seems to hold 15psi daily, but it is a bit annoying to drive on the street.

Is it a full disc? Is it a puck? What material? What is it a hybrid of?

Kool,

This is the one I have:
NOTE: You will need to source your own pilot bearing (about $10 from HiLo/Oriley's)

Hmmm Beau or Linux will be able to answer those Q's. I don't even have mine in my hands yet.

But yeah it seems the CM stage II-R is kind of a pussy clutch. Can't handle high boost loads or anything near or over 200whp. I guess I really didn't start slipping at all until I went from 6psi to 9psi... Then within a month I started slipping BAD.

I believe it uses Clutchtex material. I see a lot of brass on the disc (as teends to be the case with higher performance clutches) The pedal feels like stock, and it grabs like a stage II, but holds over 400 HP.

Pat - OK, it looks just like my 6 puck except with "filler" in between the "pucks". I guess that makes it more streetable. What's the price on those anyway? I may go with one of those next time.

TO be honest...I can't wait to get the stock Flywheel back on... I am far more of a daily driver than a racer... and I am looking forward to stock flywheel and not having to rev it up higher at launch (especially during traffic). I think I have gotten the overall engine performance and durability to the point that I can offset the gains found with the fidanza with a few psi when needed.

wow the clutch looks nice!!! And it looks like the fidanza looked just fine after 3 years. Sheesh mine's only been in 7 months- I bet it looks great.

You say I need to get my own pilot bearing?

Do you have to get the stock FW machined?

BTW, SMP - I have a spare stock FW if you're interested.
