Hey I just turboed my auto es. I have 89,000miles on the car. I got the ss afc. When I first had it installed I was throwing code po134 for no o2sensor activity. It was my wire connection for the afc. Fixed that and cel was gone. Two days later I get po131 low o2sensor voltage and po171 bank 1 to lean. I have a feeling it has to do with the o2 sensor circuit since both codes can be cause by having low voltage on the ciruit. So what do you think is causing the low voltage? Sensor crapped out, bad wiring again or afc?

Often a P0171 means your wastegate actuator needs to be replaced.

The full diagnostic scope per service Bulletin No: 01-002/07 is: WHISTLE NOISE AT IDLE, FUEL CUT UNDER BOOST, MIL ILLUMINATED,DTC P0171 SET

Its a brand new turbo and wastegate. Plus I don't hear any whistle noise coming from it.

i had the same code, took in in under warranty and i got a new WGA.......
no more cel codes.........

I talked to ken from protegegarage last night and he said it could be the sensor is shot. I already had ordered one and waiting on that. But today as i pull into my driveway i hear a tick, tick tick from the turbo manifold. I might have an exhaust leak and that would throw those codes. I'm waiting for the car to cool down to pull off the heatshield and take a look. I just hope the manifold isn't cracked.

Checked and no exhaust leak, just normal exhaust tick. All cars do that when cooling down. Anyways I cleared the codes with scanner and also reset ecm. Now the po171 code is gone and po131 remained and now po134 came back. I truely feel that the sensor is done for. Any else with ideas or input please would like to hear.

Well new front o2 sensor was installed. Reset ecu and codes came back after 30miles. Same codes, po131,134,171. I got to recheck the wiring for the afc. What I plan on doing is backprobing the o2 sensor and see what voltage is coming from the sensor and then check voltage after afc to ecu. If the voltage is normal at the sensor but low after the afc then I know the wiring has some type of resistence and must rewire it again. But if the voltage is low straight from the sensor then I can atleast know the o2 circuit is ok and I have other engine issues.

ive got the same code right now p0171. i replaced the 02 sensor and MAF and reset the ECU and as you stated after about 30 miles it came right back.

at this point I am unsure what to do...

Well last night at work I hooked up the scan tool to the car and it showed me the ecu was seeing 0volts. I have a new sensor in already so its either my wiring for the afc is short to ground or the afc is bad. Will check back later.

Do you have any vac leaks?

most likely seeing as whoever had this car before me treated it like ish.. I replaced the Bpv and bov vac lines and this weekend i will be replacing the wastegate vac line to see if that does it...

my boost gauge sits at the normal 20-22 at idle however if i accelerate slightly to get the boost to an even 0 it will actually start to decrease. my rpms will stay at about 3500 but the boost gauge needle will drop into vacuum slowly.. therefore i think my problem is more of the turbo going bad :\

Today I used my multimeter and checked both solder connections on the o2 circuit, the one before afc and the one after. I connection before the afc was seeing perfect voltage and was moving back and forth like it should. The one after the afc was barely seeing voltage. I just cut both solder connections out and respliced the wires and made sure all the shield cable that is around the o2 wire was peeled back and away from the spliced wire. I then used regular crimp connectors and test voltage after it was reconnected and saw voltage before and after afc. I then cleared codes and so far after having 40miles on it the cel has not come back. The car pulls hard like it should when in boost and the a/f ratio is perfect. Hopefully this is the end of the multiple cel. When I got to work I hooked up the scan tool and it showed me the ecu was seeing voltage well within spec and it kept moving like it should. Either the solder connections were bad or one tiny strand of the shield cable was touching the o2 wire and grounded it out. Lol this is like the 3rd time I had to do the wiring and hopefully the last. So far so good. I hope all this will be put to an end.
