My 1991 Black on Black Cosmo Type-S (USA)

Actually I have 2 more rotaries that's not pictured....

regarding the steering wheel.. I have one but most likely I'll be keeping that... and pretty much everything that came out of the car... I'm more about holding on to the parts then trying to part it out.. you should see my garage with all the FD parts... I could probably put 4-5 FDs together.. LOL!

Lol I hear ya I am only a couple months into my first 7 and the parts are already adding up. Trying to find a replacment for the fc vert steering wheel gawd I hate it so much lol.

Well, Since I'm sharing things.. here is my spare "D" series motor that I just got it built.... and test fitting the manifold...

Antoine.

We have been outdone mate.

JC + FD + FE in the driveway is pretty hard core.

Best I did was either JC + FD or JC + FE.

Nice driveway Herblenny

LOL! Thanks Dave!

Hopefully within next year or so, I'll have my black FD running and get my RX3 restored.. My black FD is my pride and joy and been working on it slowly for the past 5 years. It will get all my rare goodies in it.

Mike, Yeah.. i'm kind of showing off :) Thank GOD its not my forum;)

G'day from down under.

Great pics of your Cosmo. From looking at the interior colour & seatbelt design, I suspect you have a Type-SX. Looks wierd seeing a rhd Cosmo taking a corner in your lhd world.......

Pass on your JDM VIN please. I'll tell you the exact build date

EG... JCESE100839 = 14-MAY-90
EG... JCES 100190 = 31-JAN-95 (My personal Cosmo)

Have you had time to pop the Cosmo bonnet & notice the JDM VIN yet....?

I know.. It hurts me to see it.. But I had to get one for parts as sourcing them out seperately was far more expensive than getting a clip..

Yeah...I hear ya...If I had the space and the budget...I would have at least another 2 Eunos Cosmos...One for parts and the other as a dedicated racer...;)

That said...I enjoy the challenge of making the ultimate streetable EC. :D

Well, to me, and I could be wrong.. but I believe mazda put more restrictive sleeves in to lower the HP. Don't forget that most japanese companies were following the 'Gentlemen's rule' by not passing the 300HP mark.

Could be for that reason as well although I heard when the EC came out...It was putting out performance #'s that would indicate it definitely had more than 300hp...Although most Japanese companies followed that "Gentlemen's Rule", it seems they also used loop holes to their advantage...Thankfully so! I did talk to BNR about this.. And he did mention something about ball bearing turbos. Personally, I have no plans to upgrade stock turbos... as I don't think tranny will hold up.. At this point, I'm just want it to handle bit better and brake faster:)

Here is a picture from yesterday.. It was a beautiful day and I decided to take a drive with all my rotaries.. Of course.. one by one..

Thanks for the additional info about BNR...Improving handling and braking is definitely a priority for me as well but so is enhancing the stock 20B setup via more modern and efficent parts...I've read that ball bearing turbos are espically good for high boost applications but I'm interested in the extra duribility and quick spool action even at moderate boost levels.

One step at a time though...Unless I win the lotto...lol!

As for that pic...Having 3 HOT Mazda Rotaries in your driveway ALL waiting to be driven HARD is pretty much a slice of heaven...haha...Rock on man...Rock on! (rockon)

B-E-A-S-T...I think you could fit a civic or two in that turbo inlet alone...haha...Which of your Mazda Rotaries is this monster intended for..?

Is the 20B itself stock or did you upgrade parts and or do any porting?

Haha...Can't argue with EC Master, Dave...That's quite a compliment, Phil...Yeah...Hardcore to say the least! (2thumbs)

As mentioned above...If I had the space and budget...I would definitely have a stable of Mazda Rotaries but my current goal is to turn my EC into a streetable supercar...At least in my dreams...:p

Mike, Yeah.. i'm kind of showing off :) Thank GOD its not my forum;)

Is that because you've got quite a few Members with a stable of super sweet rotaries like yourself...lol...? ;)

I believe I saw it in one of Phil's pics somewhere...Can't recall at the moment...(bump)

Thanks! So, how do you like BNR's stage 3 on your 20B?? I think he built that for you couple of years ago?? I remember he was telling me that someone got a set from him.. I think he did 2-3 so far..

Antoine, I was going to quote you but too hard to do it.. LOL! Anyhow, starting next month, i'll be working on the brake.. I'll post some stuff on here.. and i'm going to send me in my spare LIM, UIM, IC, pipings, etc to get it jet black powdercoating.. Make this beast into a show car:) Also, I'm going to get my other engine ready for a drop in to my FD.. I'll post that stuff here..

Oh, Antoine... How did you install your stereo?? Did you have the stock touch screen climate control or did you have the din side climate control?? Can you post some info about that for me?? I'm wanting to put an aftermarket stereo with navi in but I want to move the climate to the bottom and screen to the top.. Just wanted to get some info..

Correct. He also did a set for a guy here in Sydney. Its been a few years now & these turbo's are still going strong on the same 20B engine.

Welcome to Mazda Forums! :D

Is your 20B in a Eunos Cosmo? If so...Let's see some (pics) of your EC. :)

BTW...How are those BNR Stage 3 turbos working out for you?

Haha...Don't worry about the quotes...They're nice but not necessary and definitely a pain in the ass when you've got a lot to deal with...:p

Thanks for the updates...I'm very interested to see how the brake upgrade works out for you as well as how the powdercoating turns out...:D

Plus...I'm sure everyone is looking forward to see what happens when your FD and 20B meet...;)

As for the navi setup...When I bought my Cosmo, the previous owner had put in two single din aftermarket units below the stock located single din climate control unit. Thanks to my Mazda Dealer friend...He hooked me up with a car Audio friend of his who fabricated and installed my setup.

I ordered my navi unit through the Dealer and met up with my Dealer friend and the Audio guy several times to plan out the install...I told them the "look & feel" I wanted and the Audio guy went to work custom fab'n the whole setup.

He modified the stock faceplate and did some sort of mounting magic inside the dash so that the Alpine Navi unit could sit nicely and at a comfortable angle for the driver which meant the climate control unit had to be moved to the bottom...This new setup turned out great...Better than stock IMO.

I'm a big fan of high quality clean installs and even after the initial setup was complete...It took a few more visits to iron out some final adjustments to make it "just right".

After all is said and done...My Dealer friend and the Audio guy did an awesome job of translating my ideas & vision into a super slick custom navi setup! (2thumbs)

Man...Everyone knows eachother in the Rotary/Eunos Cosmo scene...haha...(cool)

Good to know, Dave...I might go with BNR someday depending on what I come across here in Japan.

Awesome! We'll I might someday ask him to upgrade the turbos for me... who knows..

(mswerd)

Antoine,

Thanks for the pics! I now have a spare set of face plate and going to see if I can modify and do soemthing similar to what you did.. I think originally the bottom part is for 1 1/2 din.. So I need to get rid of that 1/2 din space.. But your guy did a fantastic job!

FYI: I'm hoping to make it to Japan sometime in 2010. I'll be coming down there with couple of people I know or group of people. Hope we can all meet up. I'll update you with info.

Oh, I'm still trying to get in touch with RE-A about getting one of those steering column pod. Do you have better access than I do with RE-A?? I've emailed Inukai like 3-4 times about the pod and no response..

Weird... I sent Inukai an reminder email and 30 mins later he responded back. He said he will check to see if he has one of those steering wheel pod in stock.

That is a beautiful car! I bet it drives like a dream, must be weird driving on the right hand side in the left lane though.

Its kind of weird to drive on the RH side.. but you get used to it. Now its almost a second nature and I think about it less and less..

I found a source to get new belts and such so I'll be ordering that probably today.

Phil

I have a company here in Oz make belts specifically to suit the Cosmo in the correct colours too. They are called Autoliv. Melbourne, Australia.

If you are interested in them then I'll track down the part numbers for you. They made both front & rear "Lap-sash" belts.

You can see the custom brackets at the top of the pic in this shot below.

Autoliv manufactured belts & buckles for DMRH 10 per order. THis brought the price down to near $300 per set (4x belts). Individual orders ment the pricing was near $600 per set.
