MSP Vs. GTI 1.8T

aren't the wolfsburg ones faster than the normal ones? (not a VW fan)

No, Wolfsburg is more of a trim/sport package. Spoiler, different wheels, more options are standard equipment.

In fact, on the older body style, it used to only be available with the lethargic 2.0 L, which makes a whopping 115 hp. Might have changed with the advent of the newer bodystyle...

New Wolfsburgs have the 1.8T. Over the years the Wolfsburg models (Golf and Jetta) have had different things that made them "Wolfsburg" models.

I've yet to have a run in with a MSP..

If anyone around baltimore has one lemme know.. I wouldn't mind seeing what the results could be.

From what I read I think the any KO3sport 1.8T dv/apr93 chip/CAI/TB exhaust would hand any modded MSP a good whippin'.

Too much wrench time to get the MSP to be a monster.

stock for stock all you have is extra doors and a better suspension.

I love driving my VW and when i do finally put on my FK konigsport coilovers along with front and rear sways im sure my corning and body roll will be minimized.

As for speed obviously you don't realize that your older VW doesn't have the same Turbo fins as the newer ones.

Plus the stageIII kits give you roughly 290hp to the crank on pump gas out of the box. NGP in MD has seen the lowest dyno of a stageIII GTI of 157whp on 93oct pump gas with no additional mods. A nicely modded stageIII can easily hit mid 12's with a good driver.. with NO internal work. I'd like to see a modded MSP without internal work pull high 13's on a stock turbo. I see vw's do it all the time.

VWs are great tuner cars. There is a HUGE aftermarket, and you can get a lot out of the 1.8T engine without much trouble at all.

HOWEVER, you would have to do a _lot_ of suspension work to get a Golf to even get close to an MSP on the track. Even with coilovers, sway bars, strut braces, etc etc etc the MSP is going to kill almost any Golf.

I'd take the GTI over the MSP any day, only because the GTI is a better "road car" as far as ride quality, noise level, etc. I'd take the R32 over an STi or an EVO for the same reasons. Just a better daily driver. It all depends on what you are looking for.

and expensive!!!! Upgrading the GTI costs a mint compared to Japanese cars.....tranny and diff upgrades to get that car on par with the MSP can cost almost as much as the whole car....my buddy was pricing out this stuff and just decided to stick with the chip and BOV mods and then some coilovers and sway bars. For about $20k you can get a Quaiffe (sp?) with sequential shift.....damn! But I agree the MSP handling would still whip the GTI unless you spend a ridiculous amount of $$$.....just wait for the R32......that looks like a bad ass car....3.2L six with a six speed....241hp and 238tq and AWD....starting at $28k. I'd sure have given it a test drive if they were around when I got the MSP but honestly I'd probably still have got the MSP because I like the looks better and it's got more room for me cuz I'm really tall.....plus VeeDubs have quite a high rate of breakage according to the reported #'s (new JD Power survey out today actually....VW is near the bottom of the list...Mazda just about in the middle).

On results of circuit races I usually see GTI 1.8T's in the top 10 in autox ..

Have any of you seen RS1 Golf's?

id have to tell ya, the gti has a lot of room too. I have plenty of room in my friends gti n he has a sunroof. oh BTW im 6'7, so a roomy car was a must. Out of all the cars i test drove, my positive this has the most head room

dont the 2000s only have 150hp compared to 180hp that the car have now?

2000 and 2001 VW 1.8T's were 150hp. 2002 and later are 180. the 2001 and 2002 engines (aww and awp engine code, respectively) are mechanically identical, the only difference being that VW upped the boost a bit in 2002. So basically all chipped 1.8T's have the same potential, no matter what they did from the factory.

yea its crazy insane..

Its AWD with don't quote me this but i've heard it is a inline 5cyl w/ turbo not sure if its a bi turbo or not..

They do have R32's in Germany with BiTurbos putting over 500whp to the ground on AWD.. and they look basically Stock besides a little lower..

Talk about a sleeper.

Besides in the AWD and AWP engines the the k03 sport turbo which has K04 fins and that will hold boost a little better then the regular k03 turbos.. so the newer ones will see better power off the stock turbo then the older ones..

I didn't think the awd had the K03 sport, only the aww and awp. Those are the two that run a slightly lower compression ratio.

Yes the RS1 had an inline-5 turbo (single turbo) Audi engine in it.
