2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege
Brother just bought an evo thursday. Tired of getting my ass cracked . I bought a greddy profec b spec II boost control. I have heard that you can only run 9.5 lbs of boost before the car stalls. Just want to know what to do. I would also like any other opinions on how to make this car run 12's. Money is not a problem.

make it run 12s? first i would go to the dealer. they have this awesome mod called "trade in"

then you get a new car and its like WHOA.

If he got an EVO, your best bet to beat him is trade in your car for an EVO RS. :p

Honestly, that's probably the easiest, cheapest, & most reliable way to do it. Enjoy your MSP though. :D

Welcome fellow Houstonian!

You've got your work cut out for you if you want to see 12's. The car won't stall at 9.5+psi of boost but you might want to think about getting colder spark plugs, a FMIC and a turboback exhaust.

In no particular order, you'll need these to eat an EVO.

Colder Plugs
Front Mount Intercooler
3" Turboback Exhaust
Walbro Intank 255lph Fuel Pump or Peirperg Inline pump
Atleast 440cc fuel injectors
Lighter Flywheel
Stonger Clutch
Engine Management
Larger Turbo
New Forged Internals- If you want to be on the safe side
Misc. other things to keep the car in one piece
Tranny upgrades

Money's no problem right? :)

to run 12's you would need new internals, turbo, ems, fmic, and all the other mods to suport it all :p, and sliks

Before the car *stalls*? I'm one of two people on here (that will admit to, anyway) running 15psi daily and the car is fine so far engine-wise. Now, clutchwise... :D

I'm not in ANY way saying this is safe. Don't get boost happy.

agreed. $19,000 front wheel drive MSP versus a $29,000 four wheel drive EVO? more work and more money than would ever be worth it in my mind.

I can understand that you could go buy a car off the lot and have it be fast, ie Evo. But there are some people out there, Me, that like doing things the hard way, even if the money it is going to cost could have been saved by doing something differently. There are a number of Evos and STIs out there already. MazdaSpeed Protege is not as know out in the Import World and I think by tuning a MSP you kinda set yourself apart from everyone else out there. Atleast that is what i am going for, plus I have a passion for Mazdas, can get away from them so buying something like an EVO or STI is out of the picture for me.

I agree completely. I love the fact that my car is rare. Yes, it gets annoying because of the lack of aftermarket support (few companies want to cater to such a small market base). And despite what everyone says, the MSP IS faster than *most* of the cars on the road today. And it is fairly easy to make the car even faster.

No matter how much money you spend, and how much you do to your car, there's always someone faster than you :)

discreet has not spent anywhere near 10+ thousand dollars and can run with sum bad evo/sti drivers im sure

Our car

I was riding around in my brother's Spicy Orange today and I agree our cars are so different from everything else (Especially the Orange) that it gives me a real sense of pride in ownership.
So if homeboy wants to dump a load into his MSP that's fine by me at least it will be unique.
I would bet a large number of "more money than brains" EVO owners could be beat by a decently modded MSP with a good driver. Not that it would be all too common but a few suprised looks might be in order.
