MSP sans turbo

This is not a performance thing; think of it as more of a temporary thing. How do you think an MSP would drive with the turbo removed, a test pipe put in it's place (from the turbo manifold to the s-pipe), and the intake connected directly to the intake manifold? I understand that it "should" run very similar to an MP3, but would the ECU freak out? It really shouldn't dump a bunch of fuel because it still reads the MAF, and it would just be like it was waiting for the turbo to spool. This is assuming that its fuel and timing maps extend far enough to handle a full-throttle, 4000rpm+, vacuum situation.

Before this thread starts bursting into flames, let me explain why. The new DP's fro MAM and Corksport both require removing the turbo. Since the turbo has to come off anyway, I would like to hand it over to a friend who just happens to be a master at porting and polishing turbo housings. Although this is my daily-driver, I trust him enough to take on the project. This would obviously take a little time, so I was wondering if my Speed would be driveable temporarily converted to N/A.

This is just an idea that I probably won't go through with, but I'd like to see what you guys think would happen.

Maybe borrow an ECU from someone or find one at a boneyard for the time being, then resell it? I wouldn't see the issue.

Since you are asking this question, I am guessing this is your only car and you need it running, correct?

I don't see any flaws to your theory about the stock ECU though. Except what you mentioned about vaccuum @ high loads/revs. I guess the only way to know....

Yep, I agree. The only way to really know is to try it. Of course, it may turn out to be cheaper to buy a $300 beater car to drive while the Speed is down.

I would be willing to part out a P5 ECU if you need it let me know.
Also westland is not that far from me.

It will dump alot of fuel at around 3800rpm. I don't think it will run all that well. Plus you will need to make a pipe up to mate the two.

Yeah, seems like your car would have to be done for a few days just to get the pipes made.

That's what I was curious about. It probably pre-emptively dumps fuel to get ready for boost?

It seems like it would be easier to just buy a used turbo for your friend to poilsh, then just swap them out when he's done.

I've thought about that, but it's the most $$$ up front. I have another turbo laying around, but I'm not sure that my car is ready for a Mitsu 17C from a Syclone...

Hmm, perhaps a junkyard? I know the one I go to can search on the internet among all the junkyards across the country, and have one sent. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

I did a full msp conversion and had my ecu in for a week before I actually put the turbo in. the car ran fine. Got the same gas milage I usually get. just make sure you reset the ecu after the turbo goes in. The ecu didn't even throw a CEL.
