MPI Tuner Anyone?

um i dont know about just setting all the variables to zero to get emssions tested... wouldnt u run the car rich as hell to get emissions done. cause ultimately it wont be the exhaust they check but they willl run a scan of your OBDII port and check combustion temp...o2 sensors...etc.. u need to cover many bases before u will clear CA emissions.... and they might jsut fail u on the spot with a visual... I have no idea with our cars but i would assume that since they are ULEV the restrictions are very tight. good luck mathew

well im not really concerned about legally passing emissions. i meant i needed to find someone to set someone elses car on the tester. think about it - the turbo isnt carb legal anyhow so id fail in CA no matter what.

No worries with the emissions. You will have zero codes in the ECU, the car will idle stock and take care of the emissions. I did mine with no modifications to the map of anything else. I just drove in, they plugged up to the OBDII port and the tailpipe and that was it. It took about 30 seconds and no more. I don't think AZ has a visual inspection, but I may be wrong. Don't know too much about the visual, but here in MD, they saw my ECU on the floor with the wires all spagettified and said nothing.

i know Cali has visual emissions. im gonna have to get a fake CARB sticker lol. so you didnt have a particular setting it was set on to pass?

Yes they do look under the hood along with under the car. They will not look under the dash.

Thanks again

Later..Nick

Not a one!!! The map was the same it had been for a while.

ok im not getting the extra injectors for now. what is the max boost you can run with the stock 4 injectors? how much would it cost and how difficult to add the extra injectors? wouldnt it be just as easy to upgrade to 440s instead of just adding two more?

i saw the beginning of this thread started to get into that but kind of digressed. and ive got 40 replies per page and were already on page 15, so maybe someone could explain to me those things if you get bored and feel like (probably) retyping.

Chas runs 8 psi on stock injectors. That is probably the max.

If you keep the FMU in there (like a 2:1, 4:1 or so) and boost pressure up, you could run more through the stock injectors, but tuning will be more difficult because you'll have varying fuel pressure.

The beauty of additional injectors is that you can use them for boost only, allowing you to have stock "action" out of boost and thus be able to pass emission and such.

Changing to 440s would allow you more boost at stock fuel pressure, but I have a feeling you'll lose some idle and off boost quality. It might not be bad, but it won't be exactly the same.

mpi nick told me it's better to get upgraded injectors..

As for the stock injectors i would say no more than 8psi. Since you already have an inline fuel pump..8psi should be fine.

as little beavis has noted..extra injectors are good b/c you will have them only come on when hitting boost.

I am plannin to install my inline fuel pump to only come on under boost.

Chas

When using the fmu and the MPI it is tough to fine tune it. you will have to run rich in some gears to stay around 12.0:1 afr. This is how I am curently running it.

With FMU 10-12psi

I wouldnt do more than that since we are playing with fuel pressure. But it should be fun to boost 10psi. thats a low 14s on the track on street tires...~220WHP, like SRT4s (stock)
So, 10psi should be good enough.

Hey, what you gonna do about the knock monitor? are you going to order one?
