maybe overheating?

So... Ive noticed the smell of coolant after the car heats up. However, the gauge never goes over the halfway point and ive sat in traffic w/ air conditioner on. It never "overheats".. but im worried about problems in the future. Coolant levels are fine and i dont see any leaks.

hmmm.... weird. Might be a water line on the turbo underneath leaking enough it is burning on the exhaust but not the ground.

i'd double check it from underneath if you can.

can you smell it with windows closed, windows open?

Usually windows open... sometimes windows closes.

if that is leaking, how hard of a fix?

There was a thread about this before and a lot of people said that they have smelled coolant since the day they drove their car off of the lot.

That's the answer I was looking for. But has any one else experienced this

My car had very small hole in upper radiator hose that gave me the smell of burnt coolant when my car heated up.. I didn't notice it myself because every time I opened the hood to check the coolant had evaporated off the turbo already.

just might be the case if it's something you have just noticed (but I have also read about people smelling coolant from day 1)

yup I have the same prob. every once and a while I get a hint of coolant.
I thought it was my stock catch can so I swapped it out but the smell is still there.

I had coolant issues a couple times, the upper radiator hose clamp was just a tad under torqued and coolant would seep though and burn in the radiator. The 3 way hose that connects the collant line to the turbo had a slit in the crease that could only be seen when you lifted the hose, then my hot pipe blew off putting a gaping hole in the radiator, and finally coolant bubbling out of the overflow bottle due to a "going" head gasket, All of these things caused the coolant smell none of them caused overheating

i get burning coolant smell once in a while, mostly after a spirited or longer drive, i just watch the levels and look for leaks once in a while.
