I live in NC where speeds are a rare sight, aside from the two that I have seen in the service dept; I know you're out there. Anyway, im vacationing in the VA Beach/Norfolk area and was surprised when I saw three different MS3'S, an MS Mx5, AND two MS6's. I think that navy personnel have a thing for these cars because I saw two speeds at the Navy base, a cwpm and silver as well as a red MSMX5.

I thought that was preaty cool, then I saw a black one on the highway (240?). I couldn't tell if it had a base decal or not. THEN a couple of minutes ago while waiting on a navy police officer to finish the Random Authoritative Search; I saw a Silver MS6.

this is all exciting to me because I've had my MS3 since april and known about speeds since nov last year and had only seen a couple of them around. then all in one day I see the entire speed lineup.
I thought this was cool.

Lots of military types, especially when younger, buy sports cars. I grew up at West Point (the military academy). the Cadets are paid as officers in the military from the day they start college at USMA. But they have nothing to spend it on- meals & housing are provided, as is 98% of their clothing. And all o their educational needs, such as books, are provided, too. They're not allowed to own cars until their Senior (or maybe Junior) year, and when they get the OK to own a car, they take all that cash & go ape s***. "Local" car dealers truck expensive cars to West Point (rural mountain location) just for the yearly splurge-a-thon.

Same thing happens on Naval bases, even with the enlisted. Mostly because these men & women will often be deployed for months on end, sometimes with only brief time home before shipping out again. Same deal- they get paid the whole time, but while on the ship, they basically have no expenses. So when they get home for a while for the first time, they will often splurge on a car.

So yeah... seeing a lot of quick, fun cars near a Naval base? Expected. Absolutely.

I live in the DC area in VA and there are many speed3's here also. In my work parking lot there are three total (one is a good friend of mine who liked my car so much he bought his own). I would assume it's because in general there's a lot of younger professionals that work around here (government and what not). Or perhaps people in VA just have good taste?

just came home today and must say that i was very impressed with all the speeds. I ended up seeing two more speed 6's. Very cool. I parked next to a red MS6 at the OAS NEX and a lady with an 08 6 asked me about the mazdaspeed line. Although she was very impressed with my MS3, she was more interested in the MS6; I gave her the address to this and other forums. She said shes going to try to find an MS6 for herself. thought this was cool
