yes, moving the bars down reduces the percentage of correction to that temp range

Ken, Your wire is going next week.

Yes Patrick, what Ken says. Drop below the middle line to reduce fuel. It is best on a linear way.

Nice little safeguard. It retards timing when it hears knock, and it is just added protection, that is all.... a tuning tool..

thanks for the update juan. can you send an FMIC with it :D?

Is my wire going out with Ken's?

:D

Had cold start issues again this morning. I tried cranking it like 8-10 times easy, and I was able to get it started by adjusting Fuel Air Correction map to the previous value that Juan had it set at. I think the minimum you can go up and down on that map is by 10%. This requires discression, and calmness to make infomred decisions...

Had another cold start issue this afternoon. I was like :wtf: hahah! I had to do a Pretzelogic, and pull my plugs, and unplug my injectors to clear out a flooded engine. I looked in there, and saw a small shiney pool in each cylinder. I was able to get my car started. I will have to mess with the Fuel Air correction some more.

Everytime I start the car now, I have a different temp. Texas weather is ever changing...like always.

Welcome to the world of big injectors and standalones.(poke)

I'd say it's a lot more of "welcome to actually tuning." If you have the stock "maps" doing the startup they are taking care of the temperatures and corrections... doesn't have anything to do with the other stuff... An EVO runs like 550cc stock injectors I believe... doesn't have any cold startup issues!!

And the only reason you see it with a standalone is it has to be tuned. Get that squared away and no problems then.

So welcome to tuning is more accurate.

The EVO has a OEM PCM that is ten times the ECU of any aftermarket unit. Not one of the aftermarkets system have anywhere near the resolution of any of the modern OEM PCM unit they replace. Also my post is just how I see it. The world of big injectors and standalones always seem to have the same problems. You my prove my wrong with you system. So tune away and lets see how they run. Maybe this spring or summer when we have a dyno day we can see how great some of them run.

how are u tuning it without your wideband??

Maybe someday someone with a haltech will post what kind of gas mileage they get.. It has yet to be talked about. wierd..

The best WB in the world will not help you tune for cold starts.

There is always sacrifice involved because of exactly what you pointed out... the OEM PCM is easily FAR FAR FAR more powerful than any standalone. No doubt about it. I was pointing out that it is NOT the fault of the large injectors... and when it comes down to it.. .it's the tune.. now whether or not the standalone has enough resolution and capability to ensure that startup, and whether or not the tuner has the ability is another issue. Can you get a standalone with big injectors to startup and idle reasonably. Yes. Will it be as good as stock? Likely not... but it will be "good enough".

I'd rather be able to advance my timing and have the independence of a standalone than have a silky idle. :) But if it came down to it and I could have whatever I want.. I'd want to be able to program the stock EEC and run it however I wanted it.

Damn straight!

And as far as gas mileage.. that is all tune dependent... my car had anywhere from 6 mpg city/8mpg highway, to 22 city/29 highway. Depends on the tune I run... now it isn't a Haltech, but I'd wager the Haltech is close.

nick i'm lost - what does that have to do with changing temps or climate shifts? its much the same way here day to day/night to night here in chicago. the temperature can and will often drop a good ten or fifteen degrees from daytime to nighttime. yesterday it was 50 here during the day and the day prior it was about 20 degrees cooler.

even on the worst day i've never had to do that. i'd really like to see the map, patrick, compare it to my own and maybe help you out a bit.

i get 270 miles to a tank.....tuning without the wbo2, wtf?!?!?!

6 mpg?!?!?!?! eek - i'm getting upper 20s now and hopefully will eke out a little better fuel economy when i set it up to run closed loop

Lets just say I was running a tad rich (10s or lower) it was "safe riched" by Terry to handle the cold weather when it was delivered... that was all... the other numbers are more what I get "now" unless racing.
