Just another yellow P5 build...

Mishimoto thermostat showed up. Most of the time I think of mishimoto stuff being a bit overpriced, but the quality and packaging is unreal. And for roughly the same price as all the other ones with fittings included, seems like the way to go. Could have gone with the Earls, which has 3 1/8npt ports. But this one is prettier and has an integrated heat sync (doubt it's effects are noticable). And some more fittings and hose showed up as well as a 10an koul tool.

Which direction do the rods face? I can't remember. Does it matter? I'd assume so.

Got my rotating assembly back from balancing. They took quite a bit off the crank and 3 of the rods. I THOROUGHLY cleaned everything, got bearings installed in rods and main caps, was able to stay with standard size, happy about that. Rings gapped to wisecos provided spec formula and installed on the pistons.

Not sure if you figured it out, but I don't think it matters which direction the rods face

I guessed that the bearing tangs point the same direction as the mains. So, exhaust side. Seems logical, they spin the same direction. I actually got the bottom end assembled last night. Plastigaged all the clearances, and theyre all in spec. Clocked the rings how wiseco recommends. Went to ocd levels of cleanliness. Blocked off the oil squirters too. M12x1.75 socket cap bolts and a little jbweld.

Here is a pic of the pistons in the bores.

And here is a pic of my new oil temp gauge. Saw these guys who make these gauges in the uk. It's a .96"uled screen. I wired it in just to make sure it works before I install it, and the display is amazing and the sensor reacts very quickly to temp change. Can't really say anything about longevity or accuracy yet. But it's super cool. The company is called zada tech.

Arp headstuds, Fel-Pro perma-torque head gasket, and head installed. As well as the water pump, idler and tensioner pulleys.

Also drilled and tapped a hole in the water neck for a m12x1.5 to -4an fitting. Came out very "flowy" with the transition between the fitting and the inside of the housing which is nice. Not that it matters though.

Damn dude, getting work done!

I'm iffy on a fel-pro head gasket, I think that's one thing like a timing belt that I'd use oem.

Noted. I've used one before and didn't have any issues. If anything happens, it's not too hard to change out. Especially with how empty the engine bay is.

I got what I think is the pinnacle of eBay sealed oil catch cans. The quality and design of this thing blows me away. It's small, baffled, easy to drain, has a dipstick instead of the little hose gauge. The machining quality is great too. No little edges or flaws to be found. It can be completely disassembled for cleaning too.

Also made a brake booster hose that will fit the 626 manifold. Used an old honda check valve that allows me to use two different hose shapes to perfect the fitment.

Lookin good! I'm super jelly that you're already putting together the new engine lol. Whats left on the list to have it ready to go?

Waiting on mbsp and oil pan bolts from jp, Oil pump to be completed and shipped back from Signature sound. Need a set of axles. Gotta time the motor. Uhhh, lots of other little things here and there, but I'm thinking I'm going to put it in over winter break when I'm off school. Hopefully all goes smoothly, and the bolts plugging the oil squirters stay in there. Haha.

Is the pump from signature getting coated as well or is it getting the bypass only?

Picked up a harbor freight 1 ton engine hoist with the $99 coupon. Put it together in about an hour. So far it seems promising. Footprint when folded is also smaller than I was expecting, so that's a bonus.
