jpec cams and turbo

is it possible to have the jpec intake cam and the MS exhaust cam with a small stage one turbo running 4 to 5 PSI without frying the engine????

I believe so. The j-spec and the mazdaspeed cams aren't very aggressive. It would help out to get tripoint adjustable gears though.

YES. . .
and it should help some (more than cams on a NA engine), but there aren't any dyno sheets to prove this. . .yet. . .

Best thing to do is get some cam gears and dyno the motor. Adding bigger duration cams can increase overlap and on a turbo you want as little overlap as possible. You can probably yield some nice results by just using cam gears especially on the exhaust cam.

This is well put...also heavily increased duration will allow enough air into a turbo'd engine to stress the best of fuel pumps and injectors...

The J-spec cams are not aggressive enough to increase overlap "enough" to hamper performance...As far as gains, you won't see a whole lot...BUT the advantage is very good...The j-spec cams will help reduce boosted torque (the torque surge that happens once full boost is reached around 3,000 rpm) The cams will significantly move the power band up, but still give excellent midrange torque...they are the limit, I would say, on duration for turbo'd apps though...

all that crap will help eliminate the traction problems MSP guys are talking about...You may only gain 10whp higher up in the powerband, but the smoother torque curve and more precise build of power will make the car much more predictable from standing starts...and with the aided traction, yield faster times...

it would be a worthwhile investment with proper dyno time and cam gear adjsutment. with the higher duration shield is correct in that it will bump up the powerband. now depending on your application it can help. very good for drag racers and road racers that stay at high rpm ranges. it is is possible though that one can lose power by just bolting them in. i've seen it before. i have a friend with a 750whp supra with high duration HKS cams and vehicle made less power than stock cams. this was with the hks cams degreed with cam gears.

on another note if you have a N/A car...cams are defitnitely the way to go.

Not always is there cams out there that can help in turbo applications. In this case they have shown to work well in the MSP cars. Very nice gains have been seen with them.

I have yet to see any dyno sheets of MSP's with J-Spec cams....i was looking at the spec on the them the other day and they aren't that much greater in duration thnt the stock cams. Other than getting a set of regrinds I don't think anyone else offers a cams.

cool thanks guys......i may just stay N/A for now...i want to buy a house this time next year...plus i need new winter and summer tires too

Yeah, I'd like to see a dyno sheet. . .I don't think one exists. . .
You hear about a magical one being somewhere from the people selling them, but I've never seen one.

From what I have read and heard from people tuning those cars they are great on turbo cars. And they have already been shown to go wonders on the NA engines.

So turbo or NA... get the cams.

I'll hopefully get them dynoed eventually. I'll make sure to post it here and in the MSP section when I do.
