Yes I have one
INDIANAPOLIS -- Race driver Tony Renna, taking his first laps with his new team at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during a tire test, was fatally injured Wednesday morning, a Target Chip Ganassi Racing spokesman confirmed.

Renna, who would have turned 27 years old next month, was going into Turn 3 when his car jumped sideways and became airborne. According to witnesses, the car cleared the four-foot concrete wall and smashed into the catch fence -- breaking in half in the cockpit area.

Shame. First laps were his last. RIP :(

**** man!

Just this weekend when I was at Buttonwillow one of the ASC guys car went off the track and he died due to neck injury!

this sport is dangerous!

:(

I hate to use these as examples but to anyone that street races...maybe you might wanna think first. Now I am not trying to thread jack, but I do just wanna say, if these people(pro's) can die racing like that, when they are in controled enviorment. What do you think could happen to you or someone else on a street?

It is sad to hear news like that.....

Yea, don't put this in any comparrison to street racing. its an unfortunate thing when drivers die in accidents, unfortunately its the risk they take. AGR you know what I'm talking about.

Yes; I do understand. I have followed the sport my entire life; and I have witnessed a death at the track. Sure; we all know - they know the risks they take as professional drivers; but when someone dies, it leaves you empty inside.

You can only pray for them and their families. One thing; when they die behind the wheel of their race cars; they die doing something they love.

What kind of s*** is that. These drivers, if it be IRL NASCAR, WRC, etc, risk there lives every time they go out on the track. That is their job. To race and entertain the fans. They are professionals. But sometimes accidents happen. Street racers are just selfish morons with something to prove. And accidents do happen there too. Unfortunantly it is innocent people not even involved with the street racing that get hurt or die. But those are accidents that could have been prevented by taking it to a track. As you put correctly a controlled enviroment.

Sorry there is no comparison between professional drivers and adrenline junkies on an ego trip.

Well said.

My brother and I want to go out in a blaze of glory on the track. I would rather go that way then to have someone else take my life. If my mom doesnt take me outta this world, I wanna do it myself....well that is behind the wheel, or jumping from an airplane, etc. Everyone knows the risks they take each and everytime they step onto that asphalt. Who's to say it wasnt his time to go and if it didn't happen then, maybe later down the road it would've? Who's to say, but at least he went by his own hand, not some drunk driver that took his life, but he died doing what he loved and thats what's important. Hope his family can find comfort in that at least. Hope they'll all be ok.

I agree fully about the comment about street racing.

My friend died 1 year ago this month in a car accident, that was related to street racing. I guess you could call it a 1 year remeberance thing, but I dont feel like speeding or driving crazy at all any more, even though I did when I got my MSP in the spring.

I just wish the police or the states would realize why street racers race, because there is no track for them!(At least here in MASS), so they have to take it to the streets.

I wish MA would have an all night drag strip, s*** I would run it so that no one else has to die mindlessly in street racing.

A nice post, Lara. Very nice. I think I am still in shock over the world losing another driver. Not to mention the loss to his family. Even though; I have been a fan my entire life, I always take this kind of news hard.
