import vs. corvette

When you install your a system in your own car do you add the rate that you get payed hourly for labor on top of the price of the amps, subs, and speakers? I don't think many people count the time of there hobby towards the total cost of mods. I know I don't, and the majority of the people on this board at least probably don't as well.

2. Time is money, rather you spend time or money it all counts to the total.

ahah the cobra mentioned above has a ls6. I thought that was kind of funky until i drove it. You'll convert real fast.;)

Chevy motor? You cannot be serious. Cobra is all about Ford. Oh well. The Superformance is a complete roller. They recommend powerplants, and tranny. But; everything else is finished - even the paint. They are one of the very best out there.

chevy 302 > ford 302....

I just prefer chevy engines to the fords, way cheaper to work on, not to mention I've worked with LT-1 chevy small blocks MANY MANY times.

either way the car would be plenty fast regardless.

YOu do if your talking to a magainze concerned with listing total cost for anyone to do the same alterations

Of course; I am a traditionalist, and a bit of a Cobra historian.

bottom line is....for a small import to OUTRUN the corvette....well its not going to do it in a straight line long distance run...and be as reliable. HOWEVER....before the zo6 came out....even our humble P5 could, has, and did take the corvette in the 600 foot solom. This was documented as well by Car and Driver. Its all a matter of who is behind the wheel.

eh, i think we're doing the apples and oranges thing here. Personally i wouldn't want someone to do the same setup I have, but for magazine purposes you might include your own labor into the cost. But if someone asks me how much I spent in mods for my car, I wouldn't be sitting there trying to figure out the cost @ 50 bucks an hour.

Hey fizzle.....been back a while.....guess you just missed me! lol for one reason or another the board stopped working for me....I could view everything...just couldn't post....even enry couldn't figure it out.....then I got highspeed access and everything went back to working just fine....that ended my absence.

Good thread (thumb)...but I wish we could actually prove some of the claims here...see what happens on both sides of the coin...I like the Z06...I'd take one over the viper, supra, m3...only a few rides I would not take it over...like a 911 turbo...ferrari...etc...but my point is not all 100k and under rides are such great overall platforms for extreme performance like the current vette...I mean for 100k (brand new Z06 + JL twin turbo package) you can run with the best of the best...even beat the best...this is from a FACTORY platform...not some totally custom race chassis or kit car...this is a production car that has the potential to run with the best...a civic will never run with the best and even if it got close it would be modified beyond recognition and no longer a civic...

Let's put things into perspective here...

I still want to achieve 200+ mph in a p5 or Mazda3...but I realize it's going to take a ton of work, time, skill and money to achieve such a goal...and most likely it will not be streetable at all...on the other hand...if I had dough growing on trees I could pick up a z06...head over to JL and drive home at 230 mph with the radio on, full interior and groceries in the back...

If I spent a 100k on a p5 or a mazda3...it would not be a p5 or mazda3 anymore

If I spent a 100k on a z06...it would still be a z06...just with enough HP to change the earth's rotation...;)

Perspective.... $82,000 buys you 204mph. 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. 1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds. Superformance Brock Coupe. And; you can bet your ass, a Z06 or silly Civic (no matter how it's powered), is going to go run and hide.

Cool ride but...

Assuming you buy a new Z06 @ 50K and your budget was around 80 grand total...you could go with...

Corvette Twin Turbo LS1, ZO6
550 BHP / 550 lbs-ft of torque
500+ rear wheel hp*

$18,995.00

Total = about 69K...top speed unknown but I'm sure you will break 200+ mph and run at least 4 sec 0-60...in fact with this package I think a Z06 could match if not beat this Brock Coupe.

650 BHP / 600 lbs-ft of torque
226 MPH Top Speed
$39,995.00

* Now if you picked up a preowned Z06 for 30-40K...you could do 226 MPH for a grand total of 70k to 80k...

Z06 ain't going nowhere...;)

A nice heads/cam package will make 550whp. Also, with that amount of power the tranny and that skinny little rear end will be holding on for dear life. (hah)

Sure! I think any Vette, stock or otherwise is a good value. It's a matter of choice. But; the Z06 would never be as unique as the Brock Coupe. Since Pete Brock is the original designer of the Daytona Cobra Coupe, it makes his Superformance offering really unique.

Now; if you decided to sink $80,000 into a 427 Replica (forget Turbos - just a built 351, 650HP could be achieved). Turbos are too far removed from the original Cobra. Unique Motorcars in Gadsden, Alabama has one with 650hp. 10.99 in the quarter mile. The engine is built by Ernie Elliott (Bill Elliott's (Nascar driver brother). That engine cost $35,000. So; for under $65,000, you can have that Monster! Cobras are legend!

I will add this, as well. For around $80,000, you can have an actual CSX-XXXX numbered real continuation 289 FIA Cobra from Shelby American. Awesome! In aluminum!

Or; for just over $50,000; ERA or Unique (for example) will build a 427 Cobra (w/fiberglas body). And; Superformance builds one of the finest in the World, as well, for about the same.

Vette vs. Cobra? COBRA every time! Looking back through the history books, the Cobras simply destroyed the Corvettes.

Sure; GM started the Grand Sport project, building 6 of those; but then; they pulled the plug before the project really got started.

There is another $80,000 option! And; what an incredible option it is!

The CAV GT (Ford GT40 replica)!
