import vs. corvette

Common guys....if you pumped 30k of mods into a vette I'm pretty damn sure you're going to find a way to undo the speed limiter. A vette would not be limited at 105...it's not a rental car or a family car!?!! Most high powered production cars are limited at 155 or something around there...not sure what the highest legal producton speed is in the states...

Anyway...who the F' cares what it's limited at...that can be removed or modified.

The ultimate vette mod package...

1997-2004 Corvette Twin Turbo LS1, ZO6
427 CID 725 BHP / 650 lbs-ft of torque

0-60 MPH 3.2 seconds with street tires
1/4 mile 9.50 @ 145 MPH with street tires
Estimated top speed 230+ (speed limiter WHO?)

Special sale price $48,995.00

add that to a used zo6...and you have one of the best overall bang for the buck super cars EVA!

civic who? ;)

If you had a civic with the above specs you wouldn't make it down the street without that tin can exploding...

Give me a civic and 15k and I will make the civic perform better on paper in any performance test easily..A 500hp H22 is not that hard to build..I'd say it will only take 8 grand to build the motor..Add some susp. and brakes and some custom geasets that are not to difficuly to get..My buddy has a B18 powered car that will trap at 120 and its kind of a pos..Proper tuning and it will run as long as the vette..

i think the viper is the fastest production car, 190 mph
the Saleen S7 is faster but I dont think its really a production car, more like made to order

Anyone see the vid of the civic beating a viper? I remember that one. IMHO 30K in any car should be able to beat most factory cars. If you're talking about a 350 - 400 hp car that's not really that lofty with 30k. Remember there are NA hondas running 10's and 9's at the track in NHRA sport compact.....

If you put 30k in a vette you now have a 80k car. C&D said that NO CIVIC with 50k mods could ever out accelerate a vette.... (BTW I have a friend with a H22 hatch with 314 hp @ the wheels @ 12 psi no internals, AEM standalone w/ wideband o2, and custom exhaust. That less than 6k in parts. Close to 20k miles daily driven with turbo setup)

it's proven more guys get laid in a vette than in a civic. in fact, until recently, the vette was the car that people had the most sex in. i'd sport a vette any day. and for 50K, i'd get an m3 smg. i'd get some play for sure. in the end, a civic is still a boy's toy and a vette is still a mid-life crisis man's toy.

It's a lot easier to get laid if you're getting driven around in a Maybach......

or if you're married to angelina jolie... but that's probably as likely as getting driven around in a maybach. hahahaha.

you guys keep posting about civics fail to mention that a NA civic that runs 10's or 9's is in no way streetable nor can it do anything beyond going in a straight line...and 500hp in a fwd honda on street tires isn't the greatest traction setup...a modded vette can do everything a modded civic can...it can do more and it can do it better...I'm not an import hater or a domestic lover...I just know a good platform when I see it...

Tell me how you would get a civic to achieve the following...

1. streetable...street LEGAL
2. do over 200 mph
3. run 9's on street tires
4. do all of the above with the same suspension setup
5. full interior
6. run 0-60 in 3.2 sec on street tires (in FWD civic?...yeah and I'm the pope)

Sure you can throw 10...20 grand at a civic and run 10's OR (not and) maybe you'll get up to 180 mph before the motor blows or your 4 banger runs out of steam...when you mod a civic for extreme performance you will most likely have to be dedicated to one area (ex drag)...in the vette's case...you can achieve extreme performance in all areas with one setup....even with adjustments it's still reversible unlike for example a dedicated drag civic...

The Murcielago is faster at about 204mph. and; the Bugatti Veyron is faster, still. Even if they only produce 50 per year, it's still considered a production car. For a regular production American car, the Viper is close. But really; the Saleen S7 is still considered a production car. And; of course, it is faster than a Viper.

I know a guy that runs low 12's with a daily driven civic, all NA, full interior with floor mats from the integra type R he totaled

ive been in a z06 going 190 with room to go in 6th gear. so i dont think your are right.. however this was chipped, intake, with cams..
still bad ass car..
my dads z06 is pretty much stock other than chip, shortshifter and a few little knick nacks.. and that thing ownz just about everything out here except my buddies bikes and the wrx sti one of my customers has. -=\
z06 > civic all day baby.

also remember the z06 comes STOCK with 406 hp.. cams alone add an aditional 60 - 80 hp.. add a chip and your in the low 10s. easy.. plus its got tits suspension so not only willit eat a civic thru turns.. but it can also put all that power to the ground.. you ever actually seen the back tires on a z06 vette? 18 X 10.5.. s***.. all that power is goin rite to the ground..

While I know of no NA civic that run 10s that is streetable I know of a couple that are turbo and are streetable that handle amazingly on the track.

1. Streetable civic (i had one, if i had thing running correctly before it was wrecked it would have been doing low 12s at the least, but we were shooting for 11s.
2. Why? Even on a track your never gonna go that fast. LS tranny is good for 148 mph, which is good enough.
3. Seen 10s on DOT legal tires
4. You really can't do anything with springs that have a spring rate of 78lb
5. Seen it, mine had 2 12s in the back as well
6. Not many people clock modded cars 0-60s so couldn't tell you.

I'm a corvette fan, but lets say he bought a vette for 50k (or whatever they are going for these days) if, i spent the same amount, I would be able to beat the vette in all aspects (on a track) with the exception of top speed. And I wouldn't even need all 50k. Even 20k in performance mods would be extreme. There's something to be said about a platform that could accomplish that for far less than the cost of another car.

Anyway the deal was you couldn't out accelerate a stock vette with 50k in a civic. That's what C&D said. When you start talking about modded vette you're getting a little off target. BTW anyone remember signals time attack EK. You know the one they built to beat skylines...

The only point I will agree with is that 50k in a civic would beat a stock corvette..maybe not in all aspects but some...I don't know what the hell C&D is thinking...obviously they aren't very hip to the times now...I guess when you spend most of your time reporting minvan and suv comparo's you loose touch with reality...but that's a whole different topic...

If I was given the choice between a Z06 or a 50k civic I would still take the Z06 anyday...;)

A few months ago C&D released a magazine w/ the headline "Fourgasm". The top story include somewhere around 10 to 15 imports that were tuned by specific tuners. They had RSXs, Focuses, Civics, Jettas ... also a few RWD and AWD vehicles. I remember the vehicle that made the fastest lap time was a S2000 (i think) and the price total was around 80-90k. In the end they had a picture of a zo6 and under it was the statement that they ran the same track in the z06 and still beat all of the tuners.

BTW....c&d has come out with new magazine called BOOST. It has only one issue but it seemed pretty good to me. In the mag. they had a story on a new civic si w/ around 50k in mods and it still sucked. 0-60 in somewhere around the 7s. Granted....some of the mods where strickly visual upgrades.
