How to make my turbo spool faster?

I have a GT28R with the stock MSP exhaust manifold, s-pipe, Vibrant exhaust w/ highflow cat, Injen CAI, 626 intake manifold, and Turbohoses hardpipes w/SMIC. In 2nd gear full boost (9.5 psi) doesn't come on until just about 4000 rpm. How can I get it to spool quicker? I autocross the car and need more tq down low.

Future plans include a Steedspeed exhaust manifold, and possibly a terbow 3" downpipe.

pretty sure the exhaust mani will help. I dunno, everyone always talks about being fully spooled by 2,500 rpm or something, and thats never been my experience... mine has always been about 3,500, and my guess is even though its supposed to be very responsive, the larger turbo won't do you favors. Thats my somewhat uneducated input though...

I'm gonna say both of your planned upgrades should help with spool time.

the downpipe will be the most noticable help.. Sounds like you have a boostleak though..

Almost completely off topic, but I see you are selling your wheels and tires. What are you getting next, 275s? :D

check for leaks id like to think youd spool sooner. Also if you dont have any leaks id say talk to garrett about getting a smaller a/r exhaust side housing. What housing do you have now?

the mani is the weak point here, but you should also check for leaks in the mani...with hard pipes and an upgraded SMIC + the exhaust you should be spooling much sooner...at least this would be true for the t25, the gt28r will be a little slower but you should still probably be in the mid-3's I would think at least

Do you have any dynographs of your car? I'd be interested to see how the torque curve compares to mine with the stock GT25.

FWIW, on the dynographs, it shows my GT25 hitting full boost (~9psi) just past 3k. I have more lowend torque than you can shake a stick at though, or at least I think so :)

possibly. really depends on my budget next season. I actually need to take those out of my sig. I'm gonna run them 2 more times this season.

that's at "stock" 6.5-7psi

stock msp turbo w/ mpnick upgrade = instant spool.
Got any info on cost and contact info for MPINick?

Haven't really thought about exhaust/boost leak. Any particular way to check?

Spray trouble areas like couplers, intake manifold, etc with soapy water solution and rev. Leaks will start to make bubbles.

Here's my dynograph
150wtq @ 3k rpm, 7psi (reaches full ~9psi around 3.5)

I think the Nick upgrade is somewhere around $600-700 plus 3 weeks. Maybe less if you aren't having the downpipe work done.

I'm looking to re-dyno once I get a decent tune (it is slightly better than that dyno, but still could be much better). I have to finish modding to do that though. I have to hook up my BoostSciences RDV into the turbolife FMIC, also may install my JDM intake cam.

But yeah... I want those 15x10s. I'm afraid of killing a 2nd gear like Jeff did though :(

yep...i've been talking to him about upgrading mine...but i found one with only 10K on it that he's upgraded that i'm buying...which is why my turbo set-up is for sale. he requires a $50 inspection fee and an additional $635 for the upgrade if your turbo is rebuildable. he and i emailed back and forth earlier today about it...because if i don't sell my stock stuff...i may send it off to be upgraded just to have a spare turbo.
