How-To: LED Interior / Reverse / Licence plate lights

I must have been drunk last night or something, popped in the cargo LED in 5seconds today, I may have bent the left connector over with my thumb a tad so it fits.

ndedomin are those side marker turn signals or the turn signals in the headlights that you ordered? I'm interested to see some pictures regardless.

As the last poster said, it is for the rear turn signals. I have the GT, so all my rear lights should be LED's after the turn signals and the new LED reverse lights. I will definitely post pictures once I get them installed. I just ordered them today though, and I'm in Maine, so it may not be until next weekend.

+1, would love to see the reverse LED lights. I held it off my first purchase because they are pretty pricey at almost $55 shipped. but if its worth the look I'll fork up the cash.

also, a before and after would be even better if possible :P

anyone thinking about putting leds in the front turn signals, they are 1157 bases.

i got 12 leds and they aren't as bright as i'd like them to be, so i would go with something with more leds.

ndedomin, you will need resistors from superbrightleds.com or some other spot if you would like to use those turn signals. if you don't add a resistor to the line, you will get what is known as hyper flash - the bulb will blink quickly, and you'll hear the flasher and 412763 bpm.

reply to the email they sent you and add them. they only have two on their site...you need two of these...

this took me forever to learn and caused a lot of grief. your other alternative is to find out where the flasher is and replace it...

Thank you. I will do that right now!

do the turn sidnals need the resistor??? are the blinkers going into hyperflash mode???

All my parts shipped today (including the resistors that got added this morning...thanks phillyb)!

Once they arrive (maybe a week or so) I will take pictures stock and after installation and post them so you all can see how they work.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Philly B, I'm guessing you needed resistors for the front turn signals, too? I'm just curious in case I end up deciding to do my front ones.

Edit: nvm. found the answer on the superbrightLED website. I would need a resistor for each turn signal.

I already dropped the bulb once into the trunk lining but good thing for that little access panel. I bent out the right connector a bit and it still didnt want to fit in properly, I'll try it when I actually have some daylight to see what I'm doing.

You were able to reach the dropped cargo light from the access panel below it? Are you in an 08.5 HB? Because I dropped mine as well, and can't find the damn thing anywhere.

Yes, in the 08.5 ms3 I dropped the light straight down and was able to fish my hand around that access panel and find the light. Luckily fore me it was right there and didnt go to the front or back where I couldnt reach.

I have the 7440 x15 LED's for my turn signals, but when I tried to install them, they wouldn't "snap" into the light fixture like the OEM bulbs. I feel like they are loose. Any advice?

Also, does anyone have advice on how to install the load resistor kit? I don't want to mess up my wires....how do I get it so I can insert the wires into the splicers without cutting anything?

Also, I noticed that when I went to install my glove box light, the light doesn't turn on (and it wasn't turning on even before I removed the glove box). Has anyone else had this issue?

All of my interior lights are installed (dome, map, trunk, glove box) and I also have my license plate and reverse lights working. My only trouble areas are hooking up the load resistor kits for my turn signals, figuring out why my led turn signals don't fit, and figuring out why my glove box light doesn't turn on.

for the dome light to turn on was the car on or the headlights on? I don't think the glove box light comes on from just opening it up, i think either the car has to be on or the headlights have to be on also. correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

On the rear turn signal 7440 X15, i had the same thing, I had no clue as to why the bulbs are the same size but have the extra notch on one side so they dont snap in. What I did was sand the notch on the stem down smooth on the side that needs it off so that it could snap right in. worked for me when i did that.

What did you use to sand the notch down on the turn signal light? I don't want to sand down the other notches in the process (freak)....

Do other LED's with the correct size for our turn signals not have this extra notch that has been giving us trouble?

yeah I am not sure why that happened, the bulb has 1/2 triangles on each side of the base portion. not sure why they are like that if they are the correct sizing. I just used some fine grit and sanded down the side that needed sanding. If you check in the socket you'll see what side has a blocker and is blocking it from going in. You can use wire cutters and cut the plastic piece off as well I would assume. But they are the correct size, so not sure why that happens.

Ok, thanks. I used the wire cutters and was able to cut off most of the plastic piece, and then sand down the rest.

Do you know if anyone sells LED flashers for our cars? Or do we have to use the load resistor kits for now if we don't want hyper blinking?

Moreover, does anyone know how to install the load resistor kit who can explain it to me? I don't want to damage my wires by doing it improperly.

phillyb has done it on his car and he knows how to wire them to stop the hyper blinking. He has an extra set he is going to give to me to put in, and would help install them since I am not sure how. But since he has done it and it worked he can definately tell you how to wire them up.
