bleed brake lines?

i need to put new rotors on my front brakes and i'd like to paint the calipers at the same time. however i don't trust myself to mask the area properly so i'll just take them off. however when i re-install them i'll to know how to bleed the brake lines.

thanks,

Ok, I haven't looked at the P5s brakes specifically, but here's how to bleed brakes:

On the back of the caliper, there should be a bleeder valve. It'll probably have some rubber cap on it, but just take that off. Then there will be a screw. You'll need two people. Have one person take a wrench that fits the screw, and loosen it (just enough that it's, well, loose). Then have the other person step on the brake inside the car. Watch out 'cause brake fluid is going to shoot out at this point. Then, while still holding the brake down, re-tighten the screw. Let off the brake. Repeat this process until there is no air coming out of the bleeder valve, ie solid fluid.

All the above sounds great except for the order of bleeding the brakes. (You really should bleed them all to make sure that you have all the air out of the system. You don't want spongey brakes do you?? :) ) You need to start at the caliper furthest away from the master cylinder (The passenger rear). Do what they listed above starting at the passenger rear, then driver rear, passenger front, driver front. I know this routine may sound strange, but it is the most effective way I have heard of/used to get all the air out of my brake lines. Good luck!

Just curious, but have you considered ordering stainless steel brake lines?

I've heard this is the pretty much the easiest cheapest brake mod you can do and it makes a big difference in the feel of the brakes...have you done this APEXistud and what do you think if you have?

steel lines

no i haven't considered it, i've never really heard of it (kinda new to all of this). what are the advantages/disadvantages, and cost to do all the lines needed.

thanks,

roswel., another option you should consider which will keep you from having to bleed your brakes becasue you removed them.....AND will get your calipers painted is to do them with a BRUSH and NOT the spray....this way you don't need to worry about overspray....nor to you NEED to mask anything off.
