The kits are basically a direct fit. DDM Tuning is where I got these. They were $40ish shiped. They are actualyl $5 less than when I bought them a month ago right now.
They come with a pigtail/harness that plugs into the ballast and then you plug the spade terminals into the positive and negative on the headlight connector.
Our 5's don't have plastic dust covers on the back of the bulbs like the ones in their install instructions. So I actually cut the off the spade connectors that came on it, pulled the wires through the rubber, put on new spade connectors, and then connected them to the the headlight connector. This made it so the rubber seal would fit right into the rubber seal/barrier on our headlights. You don't have to do this, but it makes for a cleaner install.
When my wife was driving the 5 and I was in my car coming the opposite way, I wasn't blinded anymore than I would have been by a car with OEM HID's. The projectors seem to mitigate the problem you have with halogen reflectors and/or fluting of the lense.
As soon as I figure out where I'm going to put a 2nd set of ballasts I am definitely picking up a set for the high beams. I figure in that case it doesn't matter if I'm throwing light all ove the road since you're only supposed to use your brights when there are no other cars.
