:(

Ok guys I recently had some problems with my MSP and now bad just got worse. The other day on the way to work my MSP made a loud popping noise. I assumed it was the clutch. The car wouldnt move or anything so I had it towed to a local shop for an upgraded clutch. Well he put the clutch in and still nothing. It turns out the tranny is f**ked. I only have 16k miles. WTF. I was just a mazda last week for god sakes. I called the dealer and service guy was pretty cool and just said "he doesnt know if that is going to be covered because of the mods." He basically said he really doesnt know and wont till corporate looks at it. The tranny should definatly be replaced the cars brand new. The cars getting towed from the local shop to mazda but im scared as s***. Whats a tranny going for these days 2k. Need some opinions to make me feel better. Will the replace it or not?

Yeah..tranny will run ya about $2k..b/c you have the upgraded tranny! They should def cover under warranty..but i know they won't! Sorry about the bad luck!

Chas

I dont see them covering any warranty issues for your car considering you have a FMIC. Unless you have a really nice dealership.

If you had not done the clutch I think you would stand a better chance. But hey, who knows go in there be NICE and see what you can work out. That Terminator I am the customer suck my balls act doesn't work well in the real world. I have participated in my share of online bravado but I am very humble and polite with my dealer and they reciprocate that attitude right back at me so give it a shot.
You haven't upped the boost so maybe the FMIC and the clutch won't sink you.

Good luck...

DAMN! you have an exhaust to! Bro, you might be screwed.

Mods: sri,fmic, exhaust

I would do my best to keep a low profile....delete your location and info. So taht Mazda doesnt know it was Moded. Unless you already told them and didnt bother taking the mods off.

$2K for a upgraded tranny seems reasonable. Do you know how it craped out on you? Poor driving or grinding gears or etc? How much more "upgraded" is the tranny compared to the regular protege? Maybe you can find one in the scrap yard. I know there is a scraped MSP on Ebay...try to see if they will sell you the tranny.

Well..if you closely look at the papers you signed..it basically states..any mods done to your mazda speed..will directly void your warrenty..atleast that's how it is here in NJ & NY..

One mazda speed dealer..installed a sunroof for a customer..well corp saw that..and immedately..voided the cars warranty..and they had to sell it as a protege...also..the msp dealer losts it's msp dealer liscense!

Chas

Than..check out some junkyards in your area..you might find a totaled msp..will be cheap for a used tranny!

Chas

You make it sound like theres no way. I only have 16k miles. My MSP is not putting down that kind of power. The local shop said the oil was dirty and had some kind of grit in it. Maybe its a defect. The tranny should hold for at least 100k. He thinks its just a differential. But hes not positive. but the labor and the diff are probly the same as the tranny so might as well get a new one. It just shouldnt be gone already.

grit would mean that something has been grinding in there... can you smell the oil to see if it has been burned? it will be quite stinky

I started really trying to baby my tranny since it seems like there have been a few failures now. I twisted the linkage in mine but was able to separate it with a pry bar and it is perfectly fine now.

Did you get a lot of wheel hop when taking off/ This can take its toll on diffs/trannys
Yeah, mazda seemed to use pretty soft mounts on 3rd gens. I did think they were hardened on the MSP though.
