Header Question

I got my header today, everything else went perfectly, except the egr tube does not allign with the mount on the header itself. Its about a 1\2" off, I tried to bend it but that didnt work out, and im scared to put a kink in the copper\bronze whatever it is, tube. Anyone else have this issue?

yeah. I used a 2 ft long bar and pried between that copper plate on the front of the head and the tube. it took a lot of force but I bent it with one arm and got the nut started with the other. be REALLY careful because some guy broke a lot of stuff trying this a few weeks ago.

I had the same problem but all I did was bend it and it finally worked. If you have any questions on it PM me I can help if you need it.

I got a Ractive header, and I had the header on loose, then did the EGR tube. I then put on the bolts and nuts to the header, and tightened them up.

Maybe you can put the EGR tube on first as well.

Be sure to do the spark plug non-fouler trick for the 2nd o2. It prevents a CEL.

already got the nonfoulers drilled and everything, just trying to get the EGR tube to line up, how far was yours off? mine was like a half inch off...

yeah, mine was just a little off. Just lined the header up to the tube, instead of lining the tube to the header. I then tightened the header bolts, and the tube went with the header. no leaks there.

Holy crap, I just saw your picture. Mine was not that bad off. Looks like some tubing is broken, and the EGR tube is bent up pretty bad. I just ran out and took a pic of my EGR for reference.

That bolt sure is an optical illusion. I had to look at it for a bit to see that it was not busted off. That tube is kinked to s***.

Oh, if you have not noticed, I put up the correct pic.

yeah, I did, im too strong for my own good. im thinkin about cutting it, and welding an extension onto it. it was REALLY far off. I tried doing it that way raider, I couldnt even get it lined up it was so far off, thats when I screwed up and bent it. my obx header actually has a badge on it....is that the older one or somthing? Im taking a few min break so i dont get pissed and break shyt, I hate having a temper...specially when working on my car...

Bend the tube back. Slide the nut back and use a closed end wrench to gently bent it back into shape. You can use channel locks on the kinked part to get it a bit more rounded.

best thing to do is loosen all the bolts on the flanges or just take then out. Then first connect the EGR tubing... then bolt the header up. Worked just fine for a guys I helped install.

PM KYMP5. Ken runs protegegarage.com, and can probably get you a new egr tube if you ****** it up belyond repair. Either him, or mazdarecycling.com.

Other than that, do what ^^^^^ and I said, and you will be ok. Go have a couple beers and relax a little, first. :)

I am pretty mechanically inclined, I tried this, and followed the header how to. I did not bend it until after trying pretty much every way I could think to do. I took the header out and attempted to screw the egr into the threads on the header. it feels like it is binding really bad, (edit) I checked to see if the threads were the same, i put the header in upside down to test the threads, they will not thread w\out stripping, im going to be sending th header back to the guy I got it from on ebay... ill call protegegarage to see if they have them in stock yet (only reason i didnt buy it from them in the first place)

ok well I put the stock header back on, but the egr tube is pretty much out of commission, its even worse off now then it was in the picture, and I am just wondering if its bad to drive with it off or with a plug until a local shop can get a new one or repair the one I have (if possible)?
