This is true, on a more specific note, all tv's at the store have been calibrated using the spyder tool. So don't expect to get the same quality when you take the tv home. TV will obvioulsy look amazing but there is still untapped potential inside the internal setting that only a spyder tool can reach.

Semi off-topic, that spyder tool is such a ripoff it seems. I just paid $2500 for a TV and now Best Buy wants me to spend an additional $300 so they can unleash it's inner beast? Screw that!

For some reason I have never heard of this spyder tool...1sty?

I just read that it is pretty much a waste of money.

I don't believe that thing can really do the job of a real professional or even a regular person using setup dvd's.

Actually, most TVs in the store are cranked to max brightness and look like s***.

Well not at circuit city, firedog calibrates all t.v.s And people. It does work. Firedog will do as many t.v. as you need for only 150. It really does work, I noticed a substantial difference after calibration. BB 300...yes that is a rip.

Yes it can... how can a pro know the difference by just looking at the screen get real. Every tv is different.

lol, perhaps you won't hold that opinion after reading this article. This is from the viewpoint of a Firedog technican. Did they tell you your TV looked better as well? :-)

Circuit City's In-Home TV Calibration Is A Total Scam

P.S. I think turbolife was questioning that the Spyder Calibration tool would work as well as a profession rig.

Thats so ridiculous...I am laughing at that s***. Don't know what store that is, but they use the spyder tool. And I will say again, that tool does work. The setting are no where near the factory and the t.v. like I said before is approx. 2x better looking than out of the box.

But that sht was funny...

So...having said all that...who wants to split a Spyder tool 6 ways and then we'll resell it after we've had our way with it? (shady)

They don't just look at the screen...of course every tv is different.

I personally would not pay for that device or a professional unless I was building a real home theater in my house.

Like I said I read some pretty angry reviews about that Spyder.

EDITED for kindness

Now now, there's some good info in this thread. Let's not get it locked or dumpstered.

Of course the calibration works if you're willing to pay. The thing is though it is dependent on the TV -- Sound and Vision magazine calibrates every TV they review and some are pretty good/close using the factory settings while others are way off. It all depends on the TV and if it's worth it to you to possibly get a better picture. Me, I just adjusted mine through the standard menus until it looked good to me - really that's all that matters in my opinion. If I couldn't get a picture I was happy with on my own THEN I'd shell out the coin for a pro to calibrate it.
