Hatchback Noise

Question.

I've had my MP5 for almost a year now.
Do any of your hatchbacks make rattle noises when going over even the slightest bump? I'm gonna call this week to take it into the dealer and get it looked at, but I was curious if any of you guys had this problem as well. At first, I thought it was the spoiler, which it very well could be, but now, I just think its the entire hatchback.

Any info would be great.. thanks ;)

one of my rear springs makes a noise.. ugh.. like a creak when i go over a bump slow. it sucks -=( im just gunnah dynamat the hell outah the car so i cant hear it -=)

I believe it is the spoiler. I recently swapped my sub into a new box and while testing the system with the doors closed you can easily tell that the spoiler 'buzzes'. I reached under the spoiler and pushed up a bit, which stopped the noise. Now I'm thinking about getting a small rubber wedge or something to keep the plastic from vibrating so much.

Sorry in advance if this post doesn't make sense... it's monday morning and I haven't had my wheaties

hmm.. what kind of rubber wedge would you get? Where would you put it?

Has anyone here taken their car in to get this looked at? I'm thinking this is just one of the flaws in the making of it. Not very solid. :( Dont get me wrong, I love with car with all my heart but this just aggravates the hell out of me.

the noise from your spring is due to the bolt not meeting the thread...you need to take off your seatbelt assembly in the right rear (im assuming thats where yours is coming from , just like everyone elses), take off the top bolt, and add washers until they are as high as the threads (currently if you have lowering springs the thread ends so you really arent tightening anything).

as far as a rubber wedge what i found that has worked well in the past is taking a bike tube and cut it to fit double it if that doesnt work. ive done this times in the past and has always worked for me

I will try a fix tonight and post on the results tomorrow morning. The bike tube idea is the best one I've heard so far - i asked my coworkers and the general consesnus was cutting up an old shoe sole.

yeah i do stereo installs for other people and for the local stero shop and the best thing we have found for this situation is either dynomat which i dont think you want to do on the body or the tire tube which works well. and works well for a seal on band pass boxes. if this doesnt work than the rattle is the acutall wing its self and there is no way to stop that rattle. anymore questions about this let me know

Mine had a broken clip holding the inside panel of the hatch on. It rattled like crazy until I took it to the dealership and had them fix it.

i had this problem long time ago, and i realized that it was the stupid licence plate, because the licence plate is designed for japan but then we our different, so it's not a perfect fit even they changed to fit ours

I sometimes hear a rattle from the hatchback when going over bumps..I keep thinking I have not closed the hatchback properly..I open and then close it and the rattle goes away. I don't think I'm improperly closing the hatchback!

Why not use weather-stripping? That what I used and it works great.

I was just cleaning some of the wonderful road oil off my car and noticed what may be another cause for the noise. The wheel well liner on the right rear side hits part of the frame and is not directly attached to this piece. I think because it is at almost 90 degrees it could make a pretty loud thump. You might check this out also, another place the weather stripping might work.

I'm a few days late (damn overtime) but I got the rattle to stop. I used a ~2.5" long piece of silicone tubing wedged between the body and the spoiler (directly under and behind the high-mount brake light). No more buzz when the bass hits hard. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to keep the license plate from flapping around when you close the hatch.
