Guitarists?

I've been playing bass for about 18 years now (god, am I really that old?). I started when I was 16, played for about a year and got decent, then everyone is HS teased me about playing bass because I couldn't play guitar. So I picked up guitar for about a year but bass is my passion so I stuck with bass. I played a 6 string Ibanez bass for a couple years to shut people up about the whole "6 strings too many for ya?". I used to actually care what people thought back then. haha. I had a couple 5 strings but anything below a low D just sounds alien and unnatural to my ears so I stick with 4 strings now. Mostly Fender style. Leo had it right even way back then.

guitar? i used play in a metalcore band from ages likeee 13-17...

axe of choice: blacked out gibson SG

I kinda want to plasti dip a guitar. I might test on the Epiphone since it's not really used...or together lol

i am teaching myself. only been a year though, so i be a noob. i started practicing the e minor pentatonic scale and then went to open chords. now i am getting better with barre chords.

Carvin is so expensive! But That discussion will be saved for the guitar thread lol

Indeed they are. The V I was playing is my friend Chris'... the other guy in that picture, and he has 6 of them now. He's been trying to guilt me into one, and I've already had one on order that I had to cancel... But man... so much money.

Carvin prices seem pretty good for what you get though, no? I mean boutique basses usually start around $3k.

Top quality fo sho.

Brings me to our next question:

What is your dream instrument?

If you could get that special guitar, or amp, what would it be?

I personally want the Kiko Loureiro Custom Shop guitar. Kiko is a guitarist for the band "Angra" who is based out of So Paulo, Brazil. Kiko is an ESP artist, but doesn't have an artist model, he instead has a custom shop model that costs rough 3-5k.
The guitar is a 27-fret monster. 1-11 are normal frets, 12-27 are scalloped frets. The black model has the Kiko flame fret marker and the blue model has no fret markers

Dream instrument... that would be difficult. Hmm, I've always wanted a nice PRS. I see that Mikael Akerfeldt now has a signature model out. That would be toward the top of the list I think.

Here's mine

Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-4 Bass Honey Satin

^^ Thats my main bass. I also have an Ibanez SR400, and a Fender Jazz, played out of a ampeg 4x10 w/ a 400 watt head.

for guitars, I just have an American Strat 70s remake, out of a 2x12 crate combo

Nice! I currently have a Peavey Millenium BXP 4 String Bass MBL. I got it back when it was 600 bucks. I play out of a Hartke 4x10 xl with a Hartke 350W transient head.

Schecter Guitar Research Stiletto Studio-4 Bass Honey Satin???

Peavey Millenium BXP 4 String Bass MBL???

Just realized, what's with all the crazy instrument tags?

I have a Peavey Predator Plus HDR, and an Ibanez RGT-42DXFM, and an ESP LTD MH-401QM. It's getting pretty ridiculous lol.

*Edit*
Those compared to my Fender Stratocatser, or my Fender Telecaster. Shoot, Gibson does it now! I have a Gibson Les Paul Premium Plus AAA Flame Top

Just being descriptive :)

Edit: sorta like the kid in a christmas story about wanting a red ryder bb gun. He didn't just say red ryder.

I know, so many companies have altered and made varied models of 1 type and it grows from there. ESP MH-401QM. MH body style, 401 model (pickups/layout/etc) QM = quilted maple. Ibanez RGT-42DXFM. RG body, T = Tremelo, 42 model, DX = Deluxe, FM = Flame maple

Clever, your dream bass is a Schecter? Haha. My buddy has one and it plays and sounds really good, especially for the money. But a dream bass?

Honestly, I think I own my dream bass. My Marcus Miller signature Fender Jazz. Of course, I had to mod it though. Nordstrand pups, an Aguilar preamp and tortoise shell pickguard. It plays and sounds just as good as a Sadowsky or Mike Lull Fender copy and at 1/3 of the price.

Between my Fender Jazz and my early 70's Univox with flatwounds I'm happy with the tones they have. The Fretless is nice for jazz, which I don't get to play very much anymore... :(

And I like modding basses just as much as my cars. I built my own Warmoth a couple years back. But sold it later on because I just didn't like it as much as I thought I would.

I actually sent the guy I sold it to an email a couple months ago asking to buy it back. He said he's still using it as his main bass in a wedding band and there's no way he would sell it. Haha, I was dissapointed and flattered at the same time.
